How big is this in terms of the whole Mid East problem? How much does this affect 'the war on terror'?

You know that saying, 'a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step?'
Well, this is a step.
Only 999.99 miles left to go.
But, it's a step.

Agreed.
The true answer may come when we see if violence continues to abate in the wake of the Israelis pulling out or if terrorism continues to be fostered and fomented amid the self-government and lack of provocation.
Time will tell.

With the wall continuing to be built, this may come across as nothing more than a reach around.

Gotta love those reach arounds. :(
Do you think the wall around the West Bank will increase or decrease tension in the area, funkaloyd?

The equivalent of returning Manhattan to the Indians.

Aha... How many million Native Americans are living in all of New York City? Manhatten alone? What percentage of the population do they make up?
Do you think the wall around the West Bank will increase or decrease tension in the area, funkaloyd?I think that it'll depend on what side of the wall you look at.

Native Americans in that part of the U.S. are all but obliterated. Populations of Natives are more concentrated throughout the Southwest (such as Monument Valley).
According to Wikipedia, the population of Native Americans in Manhattan alone is 0.50%. NYC as a whole is 0.52%.

Then what we're seeing now in Gaza would be "the equivalent of returning Manhattan to the Indians" if there are only 7,000 or so Palestinians living there. I've never been, but I'm pretty sure it's more than that.

Do you think the Palestinians will accept the border (the so-called "green line?") or will they continue to agitate for pushing the Israelis into the sea?
Will militant Israelis give up the West Bank as easily as they APPEAR to be giving up Gaza?
What do you think?

Regarding the Green Line, have a read of this (http://www.antiwar.com/hacohen/h052103.html). It may be biased, but other sources (http://www.channel4.com/news/special-reports/special-reports-storypage.jsp?id=532) have corroborated the fact that the wall isn't following the Green Line.
Even if it did, I wouldn't consider the wall much of a concession if I were a Palestinian, unless maybe a Palestinian state were created inside it.
And it's not like the only possibilities are "Israel for Israelis" and "Israel for Palestinians", you know.

Really? Have you read the PLO charter recently? It calls for "driving Israel and all Jews into the sea." Hasn't changed in the past 40 years. Violence has NOT been renounced. But, let's give them land and their own security apparatus, right? SOunds great...for the Palestinians.

At the time of the Peter Schagen purchase I think the ratio of Indians to New World Americans would of been less than what it is today.
That's history, now that the Israeli's are evacuating Gaza let's see what becomes of the land.

I think it is a huge gesture from isreal, although I think it will do nothing to stop the violence. I feel so bad for the people who have to move.

The most obvious one would be a single state solution, with equal rights for Palestinians, if not slightly more rights.
