I’m not surprised in the least, but the nominees for this year’s MTV Video Music Awards have one glaring omission—Beastie Boys, “Triple Trouble.”
How is it that this video didn’t receive one single nomination? “Triple Trouble” is arguably the best video of the last calendar year, yet MTV has passed it by. Not only does it look great, but the storyline, the acting, the green jumpsuits, Adrock popping his collar, the humor and hilarity, the vegetarian lasagna, Pong, the Halloween costumes, and Sasquatch’s power moves are all on point (!). You’d think it be nominated just for the fact that Kanye West makes an appearance (that usually seems to do the trick).
I believe the video may have been too new to be nominated last year, and this year? Well here’s what we got instead:
Best Hip-Hop Video (2005)
Common, “Go”
Kanye West, “Jesus Walks”
Missy Elliot, “Lose Control”
Nas, “Bridging the Gap”
Snoop Dogg, “Drop It Like It’s Hot”
I didn’t bother listing the nominees for Best Group Video or Video of the Year, because, c’mon, if Aerosmith’s “Cryin’” beat out “Sabotage” in ’94, what were the chances that the Beasties were even going to be nominated in ’05?
While were on the topic, “Right Right Now Now” also got the snub in the Breakthrough Video category. That can’t make Nathanial Hornblower all too happy…

I think it's safe to say, in recent years at least, that MTV doesn't give a shit about the Beastie Boys, but then we shouldn't give a shit about MTV so it evens out. Common should win that award (being far better than any of his competitors) but Snoop Dogg will most likely win with a video that fulfills just about every rap video stereotype I can imagine.

all the videos nominated are dope. stop hating so much...missy's vid is fucking sick..not to mention the beat is hot. drop it like its hot was an amazing song, the videos was weak...but dont tell me you would skip over it if it came on.
breakthrough video? so the beasties are breaking through finally?

Of course we, being beastie fans, enjoy the triple trouble video, because we love the beasties, but don't kid yourself. On a universal tip, it wasn't a really amazing video by any means. There was nothing particularly special about it. It wasn't bad by any means, but definitely not Best Video material.

ditto, for the most part, i hate missy's song, ear-splittingly bad, but it's still a crazy video, and the others are very good too

I know some people think it's a tad dull, but I honestly feel the An Open letterto NYC video was like a supreme work of art  There's some really great shot's of New York, the boys doing what they love, and some cool effects.
If any video should get an award it should be that. Maybe if Capitol had put it out in America and it'd been a hit...who knows?

I thought the 'Triple Trouble' video was pretty rubbish...

Triple Trouble was only better that the Nas video on that list, every other one was pretty good, including Snoops.
That Missy song is hot, and great video too, hope she wins.

i did like 'open letter to nyc' a lot, tho. it looked really cool. and it was nice seeing them chillin in the city.

The Beastie's video's are just so unique, original & excellent!!! they don't spend millions like these other artists!! look back in 98 when they won the best hip hop video for intergalactic! don't forget these guys are on a different level from all of us, its like when Montey Python was released back in the 70's, now these guys i.e. John Cleese etc, they were way ahead of the game! nobody got it!! but years later people were like, wow, this is amazing why didnt we see this earlier! all there video's work well for me. :D

I'd second that.
I'd third that but Common is there and I love his music....but Missy E. is my second pick.
I wasn't surprised that they didn't get nominated...I mean I love the Beasties and all but comparing the video to all the other's that were out this year. If you want a channel that likes Beasties I'd say Fuse and maybe VH1.

Yeah, MTV hates the beasties soo much in fact that they've given them 2, one hour live specials, and VH1 (owned by MTV) gave them a two hour Beastiography. Haters.

somehow I kinda doubt that the boys are making video's with MTV awards in mind. they make the videos for us, the fans.

Triple Trouble was great, but admittedly fairly niche.
Open Letter, on the other hand, is a video which epitomises hip hop... moreso than those other tracks at least, and definitely definitely should have been nominated.

Kanye directed the Common video so he'll be happy if Common wins anyway. There were two videos for Jesus Walks, the one with the KKK dude burning a cross and the one where he in a church. Which one are they nominating?
