Jimmy Buffet does in fact blow.

but...

Elton John's music doesn't really suit all moods. I mean, Saturday Night's Alright For Fighting doesn't really make me want to kick someone's ass.

?uestlove's afro is subpar at best.

Elvis Costello still kicked some ass in the 80's.

Perry Como owes everything to Bing Crosby.

PIL is no more underrated than VU is. They both have huge followings.

Comparing Audioslave to RATM is more like comparing wood to gold, not really garbage, though.

I think you could still fully appreciate music, and therefor life, without having heard VU, considering the amount of bands they've already influenced.

I hardly ever listen to Violator. And when I do, I skip over half the songs.

ODB is dead. And I never really got into him. There. I said it.

Half of what Queen recorded wouldn't ncessarily compel one to rock their ass off (Play The Game, Who Wants To Live Forever, The Show Must Go On, Sail Away Sweet Sister etc.)

Rakim is widely acknowledged as the greatest rapper ever. And he's been resting on his laurels for over 5 years now, at least. How is that underrated?

Dre has more talent in one toenail than half the rap producers out there combined. Don't even lie to yourself.

King PSYZ
08-17-2005, 01:57 PM
But if his opinion is the only one that matters than your opinion stating so wouldn't matter...

Rakim is known by those into the hip hop scene as the greatest MC, but outside of the fans far too few know his name and his talent. I heard he was trying to release an indie label record for a while, so not really resting.
New kids to hip hop need to understand that Rakim is the level by which all others should be measured.

See, you all are equating success to sales or popularity. They're not underrated.

By the way, Eric B & Rakim were consistently going gold with their albums in the 80's which is pretty much like going double platinum nowadays. He was working with Dre, but now he's working with Primo supposedly. Dre's chipping in a few tracks, though. That's how it should be. Primo will bring him back.

Adam, yes, you are correct. Thank you.

mickill
08-17-2005, 03:28 PM
How about underappreciated then? Would that make you happy?
Yes. In most cases. But can you really say that about VU when they're widely known as the band that "Not many people ever heard, but everybody that did, started a band"? That's as big a compliment as you're gonna get in the industry. Besides, The firts album has almost sold platinum now and it rounds out the top of every critics top 10 albums of all time list. How could they be underrated OR underappreciated?

No, sorry. I was just lookingfor holes in your theory. It's actually true for the most part. Well, was true. He's just been all adult contemporary for the last decade or so, though.
