He got a degree in marketing I think. Anyway money or beer aren't really what I was looking for. I would like to get him something nice and classy. He's kinda like the little brother of our group and has always been the "good one". While the rest of us were either lost, lazy, or just randomly fucking up our lives he has been the responsible one who has worked really hard and stuck with things. He has been working part time and going to school full time forever now while living with his parents which I know has to have sucked ass. I dunno I am just really proud of the kid ya know?

How about a nice (maybe wood with matting) frame for his dipolma? Or a gift certificate to one of those leather stores for a nice briefcase?

I'll have you know that even if I could choose any beer in the world - it would be malt. It has nothing to do with the price whatsoever. I prefer cold malt over any import or domestic beer out there. And it'll have you kicking like a funky chicken - real quick !

i think a watch is a great idea. in this day and age of disposable, consumable, flash in the pan, nick-nack, bullshit plastic, throw away shit gifts --- a clunky metal watch, is a gift that can truly stand the test of time.
it's also symbolic. a handsome time piece can represent the amount of time your friend spent dedicated to his studies and consistently doing the right things on the road to his personal success. you don't just buy watches for anyone.
$95 (http://www.fossil.com/shopping/product/detailmain.jsp?itemID=11776&itemType=PRODUCT&iMainCat=956&iSubCat=957&iProductID=11776) and fairly classy.

yeah would that be more appropriate for the business world?

imo, there's nothing unprofessional about an all steel watch. marketing / advertising are hip, creative positions. the dress code in those environments is usually relaxed.
when you buy a watch with the leather band it eventually needs replacing. rarely are you able to get the exact replacement band. then the watch becomes mickey mouse'd. if the band snaps, the face ends up in a shoe-box full of other odds and ends, until a replacement is eventually secured.
with an all steel watch, it remains entact, as was intended.
i'm not sure what the watch back is like on the fossils, but perhaps there'd be room for a little engraving too. a watch is a great gift because he'll always wear it. people will always comment on it. at that point he can share the story of his good buddy, Lopp giving it to him for successful completion of college.
whatever you decide, keep us posted.

There's nothing like the feel of a nice leather band though. And if he only wears it a work and out to dinner - it should last a long time.

i can appreciate the leather band. i've mostly always worn metal, but i imagine that'd be a real comfy loose fit.
as far as cristal (http://www.18004champagne.com/prices.php?PHPSESSID=5b0e8bbd68ecd347f7897b33e4205 773) or other booze related gifts; they're disposable. eventually the glasses get smashed.
were you thinking getting cristal (http://www.18004champagne.com/prices.php?PHPSESSID=5b0e8bbd68ecd347f7897b33e4205 773) in addition to a nice watch? i'm not really sure how much you originally wanted to spend. if you clicked on that link (http://www.18004champagne.com/prices.php?PHPSESSID=5b0e8bbd68ecd347f7897b33e4205 773) above, you'd notice that a bottle of cristal (http://www.18004champagne.com/prices.php?PHPSESSID=5b0e8bbd68ecd347f7897b33e4205 773) is ridiculously expensive. henkel or moet would envoke the exact same reaction and level of appreciation as cristal for a 1/16th price.

^ lol I know what cristal is mannn....I was talking about an actual bottle made of crystal or at least some material that looked like it. Umm you know the type of lil mini-bar set up that rich dudes have in their offices like the movies. Perhaps a globe that opens up to reveal a bottle, some glasses and maybe an ice bucket....
