my momz rules

she watches music channels all the time
she couldnt use a dling program to save her life but I often come home to a list shes made out during the day of songs shes wants put on a CD
ehehehe

OH best part

our favorite lazy sunday game is to turn on either kiddie puppet shows or the tv evangelists and put on the beastie boys and see if any spur of the moment lipsynching occurs

and she actually says "airesse put on some beastie boys!"

its the best music for such a game and when synching happens its just so awesome

Umm yeah
she likes her rock too
specially van morrison and booker T and the MG's

and my pops is oldies all the way
he cant remember any lyrics or artists or song titles to save his life but he loves it when i put some on for him

My mom is a huge Rolling Stones fan. My dad has no apparent musical interests. That's about it.

Oh yeah, my mom loves Eminem. She's 51. Go figure.

Both my mom and dad are into the '60s stuff, that's for sure (since that's when they came of age, of course). They listen to other stuff, but they just get a real big twinkle in their eyes if some '60s rock track plays and they get all wistful for the summer of '67, etc. etc. etc.

In terms of specific and distinctive interests between the two parents would be...

Mom: Big into Elton John, Tina Turner, Rod Stewart... tiny bits of Sinead O'Connor and George Michael (during their '80s hits period), some Madonna. She's usually someone who listens to a lot of Top 40 on the radio.

Dad: He is quite an eclectic guy and has an expansive record collection (I've inherited that urge to go out and get countless albums). His interests include The Kinks (practically every band he listens to he goes "They sound like The Kinks!") and everything else '60s British invasion-related. He's big into country music and folk as well. As of the last few years, he's been on a ruthless pursuit of a LOT of girl groups and female singers. Some of them are good, while a lot is a bunch of junk. They could be the most talentless boring things, yet he'll listen to it just because there's a female singing.

He is able to dig some of the stuff in either my collection or my brother's collection. But he's picky. If it's anywhere near too experimental, synth-ish, dissonant, loud (i.e. no ballads ;) ) and does NOT have a female voice, he tends to dismiss it. ;)

He loved the supremely sad Beck on "Sea Change" yet when I played him "Guero" he goes: "I like him better when he's sad"

God, everyone's parents seem way cooler than mine. My mom listens to Bing Crosby and shit like that. I don't think she would know Bob Dylan or anything present day if it hit her in the face. My dad likes the Charlie Daniels Band (go figure....Devil Went Down to Georgia c'mon  ).....I did get him to like the Greatful Dead back in the day. That was about as close as I got to anything remotely listenable.

Both my parents like a broad range of music. My mom' sfavourte stuff probably tends towards 70's folk-influenced soft rock stuff - Carly Simon, James Taylor, Cat Stevens, Carole King, heard a lot that growning up. My dad is more Rolling Stones, Bruce Springsteen, CCR, Bob Dylan, The Who. But that's really just a tiny bit of the full spectrum - they were both active in local theater groups, so a lot of showtunes as well. Mom was also keen on a bit of classical; Dad likes a good bit of jazz. On occasion, some older country stuff as well - Hank Williams, Loretta Lynn, Johnny Cash. We didn't watch very much TV, so there was always music in our house.

My parents are a bit older than yous guys (well, doh!).

My dad's heavily into be-bop, he loves Benny Goodman, Glenn Miller, Gene Krupa, but there was a Bill Haley 78 in his record collection. He had loads of singles (Harry Belafonte, Danny Kaye, bits from musicals like Guys and Dolls, Pajamagame etc) and those 78 rpm's that we listened to in grandpa's old record player.
Mum's not into music at all, but she did go out dancing a lot in the 50's, that's how my parents met. She just told me the other day how she and some other girls from her town went working down in Helsinki at the soda-factory for the summer sometime '55 and how they went dancing every weekend :D

So here's a few more, hopefully the last time.

Mom: Toadies, Presidents of the United States of America (WHY?!), Nirvana, Queen, Smashing Pumpkins, Aeorsmith

Dad: Heart, Garbage, Pink Floyd, Bush, Simon and Garfunkel

It's pretty much the same genre (all 60's rock), but I've noticed that they both have bands that they prefer:

Dad:
Led Zeppelin
Jimi Hendrix
Pink Floyd
The Beatles
The Who
Plus, miscelleaneous blues, jazz, bluegrass.

Mom:
Rolling Stones
Eric Clapton
Bob Dylan
Grateful Dead - My mom's greatest memory is of seeing them in the 60's, front row at American University, for free.
Janis Joplin

I like both lists, but I tend to agree more with my dad; I like Hendrix and Zeppelin the most.
