lucky-duck you're going to have an awesome time. i've only heard greats things in reference to tofino. (canada's california)

i've never surfed but if it's even remotely similar to snowboarding:

maintain your center of gravity, knees bent, ass out, torso straight
speed is your friend
lean back, lean back. (from riding powder) if you let the nose dip you'll flip
stay ahead of the of the curl
keep your eye on the prize (coast)

...how long you going for?

surf tips:

Practice on the sand first. Draw a line and lay down in it and practice popping up as fast as you can in a cheesy surf stance you've seen on tv. Your feet should be on either side of the line and keeping your balance centered.

Hopefully you'll have a long board which basically moves itself and takes you along for the ride. If you are short boarding it, get ready to give up soon and wonder where the beers are.

Ride the white water first. Don't go out and try to catch a wave until the end of the day or day two.

Don't be scared.

i guess the cool thing to do would be to put the lyrics to "surfing in tofino" down, but i don't think its worth it considering nobody probably knows the song

maaaaan, surfing is so cool. i hope i have the chance to try it one day.

surfing is the birth mother of all things plank related.

...like a muslim travels to mecca, i must explore and conquer the surf before my days are done. </pact>

Catching your first wave is so much different then going down your first hill. I'll never forget the day or feeling.

Keep the pact.

Im going for four whole ding dang dong dayssssss

THANKS CHEWIE, really good pointers
I can swim like a sunuvabitch and I have strong bison legs anddddd I do pilates so my core is hard de la core. Thusly I should be able to atleast get my ass up onto the board and turn it into some semblance of surfing by the end of the trip

only part im not excited about is the whole wetsuit thing
:/

seriously, BC is heaven on earth
