now dont get me wrong, I think Kanye West should refer to himself as "The Homosexual MC" and I find him to have one of the most obnoxious personalities of any musician out there...but this is a pretty good record minus having douchebags like The Maroon 5 guy, Jamie Foxx, and Common on it. agreed. to be honest, I wasn't feeling BE all that much. Corners was maximum false-advertising; the only other track on there that was anything like it was Chi-City. Most of the "soul" tracks were kind of boring to me, but The Food, Love Is, and Faithful were pretty cool.

this record seems more focused, like there's this definite feeling to the whole album.
whereas "dropout" can go from 'Jesus Walks' to 'Get 'em High' (not back to back, I know)

the songs on this lp are like Mr. Films said more moody/darker in tone but we also must remember that Jon Brion also helped so his influnece must have really impacted Kanye. HEard Em Say is a very beautiful song indeed that incorpated both Adam Levine and the instrumental very well. Just Blaze came tight on Touch the Sky as well with the Lupe cat come nice on his verse as well, I like when Kanye story tells bout his struggle to make into the game. Gold Digger has been disccused. The Skits are way better and more funny, and true, on this lp too. Drive Slow is a great track but like I said just sucks that Jonny J, who produced alot of 2pac's music and that song for All Eyez on Me, might not be given credit for using that sample first, but Kanye used it properly though.
My Way Home, like mentioned, wasnt allowed to take off like it could too short but Common kills it.Crack Music was done exceptionally well I love the key changes/breakdown with one of the singers ( either Charlie Wilson or Penfire) singing. Roses was a very soulful track, insightful story telling about his grandmaz, very visual. Even though bring me down was musically one of the best songs on the lp, I just dont like Brandy on the hook, should have put A.Keys but thats just me. Addiction is suprisingly very dark, airy it definately has a "bout to get it on" sound to it. I also like how Kanye switched his style, in terms of rapping, on that song he rides the beat great. Diamonds remix his verse to me is so-so, it just doesnt sound like it works on the remix but Jigga came good up untill he started self-hyping the Roc. Pretty clever, wheter intentional or not, to have Nas/Jay-Z have back to back tracks, but Nas came tight with his verse, speaking on his contrdictions and basically summing up his whole carrer in one verse.
Hey Mama was a good song I just wasnt feeling the beat to this though, but the lyrics are real, I dig that and his singing isnt that bad (he's at least in tone unlike 50).Celebration is very video game sounding, like early Sonic or something, I dont know why but I always loved songs like that, and he comes clever with the lyrics, and John Legend kills it. The fact that alot of instrumentation is live is very impreesive as well. Gone is a strong ending even made Killa Cam sound right, and excellent use of Otis Reddings sample. My favorite track though, so far, is Feel Like which gives me the feeling of just driving round in the late night or something. Most the songs really give you an idea of how the video could look like, which can be contributed to the sample and how he used them
I think with this lp he tried to show that he could advance in terms of production, casue even though his rapping has improved (such lyrical songs as Feel Like, Touch the Sky, Addiction) his musical skills have jumped by leaps and bounds, meaning this doesnt sound like sterotypical Kanye West produced songs . This was more showcasing his musical skills, while TCD was more his rapping. The one thing that sticks out is how not one song really sticks out. When I think TCD, like MR. Films said, theres som songs that dont go and some that do, all the songs on Late Reg. sound like they belong on this lp, even if they dont match lyrically the music matches. And wheter this is a bad or good, there isnt a Jesus Walks, Two Words, Spaceship song that stands out becasue songs like BReathe In Breathe Out, Workout Plan force them up front more. Theres no contrast.
This is a great CD I think, I give him props, they'll be haters and shit but fuck em, this dude CD, musically if anything, is better then the majority of mainstream coming out. Its like them wannabe underground/ture hip-hop heads want, a CD thats unique and diffrent then the norm which it is. Lets see they still attack like the hypocrites they are. This might worthy of the 4 stars out of 4 they given it(when compared to College Dropout and the hype this LP gave Late Reg.), at least 3 1/2 when compared to the other rap lp's coming
just found these 2 tracks off the Japan import, sucks he should have put this on his LP, damn these tracks are fire Commons verse is the same as off of the Corners remix.

basically, with the whole "hating" thing I think some people around here know me well enough that I am not hating, I am just stating what I feel to be fact :p
Anyway, my BIGGEST problem with this album is that he has simply ran out of things to say. There is little energy, there's little to no commentary, and very little to no humor. There are rhymes that literally made me CRINGE on this album. The part about signing t-shirts, and bitch are you smoking reefer? Come on now. Also, about his children or whatever also having his PHD, pretty huge dick... okay, I get it, you have a PHD, moving on....
YES it is generally better than other mainstream hip hop out there right now, but that doesn't mean it's a SOLID album. I'm not one to blow my horn and say I only listen to underground or whatever, because I don't, I listen to things underground and mainstream.
I guess if College Dropout never came out and I heard this album instead, I would think it's generally okay. But as far as being an album from the same guy who did College Dropout? It was a huge disappointment.

I never anybody spefically was hating, but there are going be people (I meant outside the board) that will just hate because "it kanye" "he sucks" stupid arguements like that. You actaully put some thought into your post to why you didnt like it with valid reason, that right there doesnt make you a hata, least you acknowledge the good and bad, not blinded by one side of thinking

*very little to no humor.
I guess if you are amused by 4th grade humor, sure ;)
Seriously though, he used to have jokes that seemd much more snappy/thought-out before.
And gracias g-mile. I tried my best to explain my problems with it. I really wish it was better, I WISSSSHHHHH!

wish I was a baller...

Question....I thought John Mayer was supposed to be on here? Or didn't they produce a track together? Am I missing something?
I agree on the fact that I think it lacks the energy of College Dropout....it is much more mellow and dark. I was expecting the heavy hits and beats like, "Breathe in Breathe out", "Get 'em High", "School Spirit". I was surprised by the large amout of sampling but I am still going to give it a chance. And I do think it is funny. C'mon, the principal is back from College Dropout! the intro alone makes me laugh ("You ain't got nothin'' else to do...you ain't doin nuthin wit your life..." And the "Broke Phi BROKE" )
But I am listening and listening and he hits home to me on many songs. Right now I am digging Hey Mama (Yes, John Legend is the SHIT.), and Touch the Sky. And Celebration with the Otis Redding tracks. But tommorrow I will be digging something different.

After listening to the album a bit more, I have a few things to add:
1) Diamonds and Gold Digger are considerably better than anything else one the album.
2) Addiction is a good song, but it's too long... for the last minute and half he doesn't really say anything. I have no problem with long songs (We Major) but if you're not saying anything you might as well wrap it up.
3) Why is The Game on Crack Music? He just repeats what Kanye says.
Still, it's a pretty solid album.

rumored that that track will be on his next cd just didnt fit the theme/feel of the LP from what I have heard which makes sense to anybody who have heard that track compared to the LP

Game had a verse but rumor is it got removed becasue of conflict issues with Game and his beef with 50 and the possiblity of ruining relationships with 50/Em least on Kanye side.the fact is Game verse was diffrent then Kanyes in temrs of the subject matter while Kanye was comparing rap muisc to crack Game went off on this entire tanget not even keeping with the theme of the song, and what it seems with this LP its all bout keeping it consitent serious the verse was whack I can only hear so much bout who he wants to dig into and whatnot...thats why Kanye didnt put him on the track cuz he didnt want to seem like he's promoting that image which he claims he is not
also I think Addiction is a solid song, I think the space is just a musical break which is great he deosnt have to rap the whole song after all theres no doubt he is a better producer/musician then rapper least so far. My favorite track now its just has sex/erotic all over it(the instrumental/singing)
