...on my legs eleven. I have this horrible skin/follicle condition that makes them terribly irritated after any form of waxing and shaving.
Some salons have been really good and advise me to use various lotions and potions, but I blister again. :(
Has anyone ever had it done anywhere or have heard some good/horror stories about it?
I know it's expenisve, but I'll manage it.

I've never had it done... i might be getting it confused with electrolysis but can you have laser hair removal done on such a large area of skin?

Ooh actually yeah, electorolysis, I think that's what I mean.
I know electrolysis is the one with the teeny needle. I think.
What do you mean Noukie? The skin thing or laser treatment or electolysis?

I've been thinking about this as well. One of the women at the salon where I get my waxing done has had it and she's thrilled with it. Apparently, it works best if you have pale-ish skin and dark-ish hair, which is me to a T. (Has something to do with the ability of the laser to 'see' the contrast between the hairs and the skin, I am told.)

Yeah, that's me too. My skin is even paler, because I'm concious of my legs they don't get much sunlight to them, heh. :o

Just done a bit of checking - Laser removal and electrolysis are different things and Laser is good for large areas of skin/hair so go for it!

If you paint your legs purple, nobody will notice you have hair.

My boyfriend's father used to do laser hair removal among other things, before he retired his practice. He got a new machine in that was miscalibrated, and everyone came back with scarring the next day. He told them that he did everything correctly, and it was the machine's fault, and that he had no way to know it was off because he had thoroughly checked the equipment and it seemed to be all right. So the patients sued the machine makers, except for one prick who sued the doctor as well, though he had no way to tell it was off. And that prick lost his case.
Either way, I'm pretty sure it hurts, but a lot of people say it's worth it.

How much does this laser stuff cost and would it be safe for me to do it to my head and face so i don't have to bother shaving and cutting myself?

Waxing is not permanant, hair does not grow back for roughly 3 weeks (but this depends on the individual).
Over time hair growth can appear finer...but i don't think you could get rid of the hair completely. I think only electrolysis or laser removal can do this.

I worked at a laser hair removal clinic for over a year so I'd be happy to give you the facts.
Laser hair removal is permanent reduction and is not a garuntee that you will be totally hair free after treatments. If it's sucessful though, it will permanently reduce the amount of hair you have
hair removal laser are attracted to the melanin (or coloring) in the hair folicle. it is for this reason that hair removal is most sucessful on dark hair. light or fine hair does not register withthe laser and therefore does absorb laser energy. Dark thick hair responds the best. However, keeping in mind that the laser is attacted to melanin, this also means that the laser can be damaging to dark skin tones. the laser can't diferentiate between hair melanin and skin melanin, therefor it may send too much energy to the skin causeing a burn. Burns can leave permanent scars or hyperpigmentation on dark skin tones. Laser is most appropriate for the cobination of light skin and dark hair.
Laser hair removal work by sending laser energy into the hair folice cause the root of the hair to break down and dissentigrate. over time this process forces the hair folice to become dormant and stop producing hair. Dormancy can last for several months or several years. Changes in hormones, such as pregnancy or metapause can cause the folicles to become active again. this is why laser hair removal is not nessarily permanent.
you will need more than one treatment. most people need a series of treatment that could be anywhere from 4 to 12 sessions. your legs are probably going to cost you upwards of several thousand dollars.
if you have more detailed questions PM me. ;)

Woo, thanks Sara, very informative! I didn't know it wasn't permament, I'd best opt for something more permament. Cheers!
I think that might be best for a large area of skin.
Tzar:Waxing is effective in the long run. After so many years of waxing, I think the follicles stop producing hair. I have a few small areas where hair doesn't grow anymore, it just takes perseverence. Now my skin's all bad, eh, no more.
