As you all probably know, one of my best friends is in Iraq. He's doing pretty well, running oil trucks for the army in one of the more dangerous sections of Iraq (though he's not allowed to say where). I wanted to send him something, but not sure what. I mean, what could the soldiers use over there?

I thought Rice Krispie treats or Kevlar (yeah, he told me they STILL need armor there, and DON'T have enough). My brother suggested a pirate hat that he can wear when he's driving.

Any other ideas?

Yeah, I'm still working on that for him.

My brother suggested a pirate hat that he can wear when he's driving. Classic! :p

Has he got a CD player in the truck, or a walkman or Ipod or something?

Aint nothing like some decent tunes when you're behind the wheel! May I recommend The Herbaliser (http://www.ninjatune.net/ninja/artist.php?id=9)? I assume he already has any and all BB's albums :D . Also, something good to read. Has he read Captain Corelli's Mandolin? Very appropriate for him. Film was awful (I hear) book is awesome (as it the rest of Louis de Bernier's writing)! If he's into really huge, complex, epic Sci Fi then the Algebraist (http://www.iainbanks.net/sf10.htm) by Iain M. Banks should turn his head inside-out (as will anything by that nutter) and anything by Irvine Welsh (http://www.irvinewelsh.com/index.php) will definitely entertain even the most freaked-out soul.

Respect to your friend. I hope he makes it through that fucking mess... that's a very nasty job he's doing and I hear they don't get much in the way of cover. Shitty shituation. I hope he comes back soon; I hope they all come back soon, I'm sick of hearing about the shit that goes on over there, sick to death of it. I wish it would stop.

Yes, I know, I know. I've said horrible shit about US soldiers deserving to be blown to bits and I'm sorry about that, I didn't mean it. I was being provocative and didn't really think about all the people who read this board who have friends over there. They are just doing their job and probably hating every minute of it.

PEACE to you all, OK?

I had a co-worker go off there, and I sent some toilet paper. I hope it got to him and was appreciated .... wrote a note on it too.
