but I need to, because my roommates getting it and so am I.
I need a wireless card for a desktop PC. 802.11G or 802.11B, doesnt matter. The router is G. Something reliable be it PCI or USB. I dont want to spend over like $25-$30 though. I see the USB ones are cheap on ebay like bluetooth and netgear but god only knows if those are shitty and unreliable or not.
Any words of advice or suggestions?

Hmm, not sure if it'll work with a desktop, but I have a 802.11B card that I got for $7 online (shipping included) through a special internet deal, normally $20.
It's D-Link, and works pretty well for what I can tell. Wayne said it was very fast for downloading, for being wireless.

That's the thing. I can't open the link, but hopefully it'll work for you.

Try to stay within the brand of your router for the best results. I had a d-link router that would not work with my linksys router. Now i prefer linksys, but they are going to be a little bit more pricey. You get your money's worth though.
I'm sure a netgear or a d-link would work, or maybe try some no-name brand.

what would be the limitations of a USB adapter versus a NIC?
USB network adapters are, by the way, likely to use more CPU power than even a basic PCI adapter, let alone a proper brand name server-quality NIC, but on modern PCs this shouldn't matter at all.
