I want to step away from the smoke-signal internet connection at my house.
Being a consumer, I know I want to, I just don't know why.
Explain to me please what benefits I will get from a broadband connection. I want to use it mostly for stealing shit from the web. What would be the most appropriate way to do these things?
Thanks in advance, gang.

wait until next year. someone told me that it will get a lot cheaper then because of more competition.

if you plan on downloading music or whatever then it's worth it. if you just plan on posting on message boards then forget it and stick with dial up.

azureus + http://thepiratebay.org = good times
Limewire is ok, just make sure you download limewire pro (ie minus spyware/increased speeds etc) from thepiratebay and dont download limewire normal. Also get emule for rare stuff, and DC++ for connecting to the "mythical" hub.
Also make sure you have muchos spyware and anti virus protection and that you read the user comments on thepiratebay.org before downloading because they will usually comment if there is a virus in the download. Scan everything, and I mean everything, you download off limewire, I dont trust that shit at all.

My broadband is pissing me off, sometimes it's as slow as dial-up. No idea why. It happens if I have limewire going, but it's gets slow when I have just 2 windows up and msn.

If you use that logic you'll never get broadband - because in 2007 competition and new developments including Telstra's new network will drive prices lower than in 2006 etc. :)

i used to work for optus, selling phone and internet plans. optus are a lot better than telstra, particularly with internet.

don't you guys have a better, local company, as opposed to using generic telstra or optus ninternet?

Cable internet is only provided by optus and telstra. And ADSL hasn't matched the speeds of cable yet, especially in off peak periods.

No matter who you use, 99% of the time Telstra owns the network (excluding Optus Cable). So there's not that much point.
And Telstra sucks, yes. But every move you make online, on the landline phone and on your cell phone in Australia passes through their network in some way. So what they do affects the price of everything everyone else does. We're fucked because of that.

some broadband companies throw the breaks on you if you start to peer-to-peer download as a way of controlling the bandwidth.
if your in britain you should shop around, you's get some crazy good deals.

just enter the name of the album into the album box in the search section and wait to see which songs come up... you still have to download each song individually though.

i have the free version of limewire and i've never had a problem. i would say that you should get a decent p2p guardian program if you use any file sharing service...i have protowall and it's pretty tight....i also run a spyware removal program daily.
