Hahaha. I don't know ifyou should or not, how noticeable is it?
You probably SHOULD go, but if it's not really that bad you could probably get away with it. I have. :o

Yeah, I know. How did you chip it? I chipped mine while licking a butter knife. Someone snuck up on me and freaked me out enough that I smacked my tooth with the serated edge of it. It's only noticable if I point it out.

well, i was binding a book with one of those really thick needles, and it was hard to get the threaded needle through the holes in the paper and cardboard, so i pulled it with my teeth. :( too hard.

if it's chipped so much that it's aching, then do it cause it's only gonna get worse...if not and it's not noticeable or sharp to touch it...to hell with it.

Surely you could just go to a dentist for a checkup and mention it in passing. Its better to be safe than have a root canal and be very sorry.

As a uni student, you can get one of those centrelink health cards that make dental checkups and stuff cheap as.

just reading the topic title was enough to make me curl up and go eweweweweweewww. there's something about the thought of chipped teeth that just makes me a little bit queezy. maybe i chipped one when i was young or something. i don't remember it. i don't take super great care of my teeth but if one gets chipped i would be going straight to the dentist, which it sounds like you've resolved to do anyway

Its ok...I totally agree that alot of christians, particularly the fundamental, hillsong, christian right type churches are completely fucked and that Pat Robertson guy is especially scary. Despite my catholic upbringing I am staunchly agnostic...most formalised religion is full of hypocrisy anyway...if you ever actually meet an archbishop, or go to a cathedral mass or something you will see what I mean.

There was a commercial for some charity that they kept playing around the time of Live 8 (and I think they still play it occasionally) with all these "do-gooder, bleeding heart liberal, homo-gay feminazi liberals" and Pat Robertson. It was so funny watching this commercial where he was teamed up with them. :D

If there is one thing I know from experience, it's NEVER let a buddhist work on your teeth!!!
Seriously though, is this going to effect your pizza making in any way? :o

You should really get it checked. You have no way of knowing if perhaps you have caused some sort of small fissure in the enamel which may not be of any consequence at the moment, but over time could potentially cause you no end of problems.
If there is a unversity in your area with a dental school, try going there for a lower cost (or even free) dental exam. The students need people to practice on, which is not as scary as it sounds - if they operate by the same guidelines as the US, which I imagine they do more or less, all procedures are overseen by qualified dentists.

Yeah achipped tooth will mess with any other tooth it normally touches too, best to get it taken care of sooner than later.

How on earth will a chipped tooth "mess" with another tooth? Will it take pieces from the tooth next to it to fill in the gap?

I think it's more that the sharp edges are a potential danger to the tooth directly above/below it - can produce further chips etc.

A tooth that's chipped from trauma shouldn't be ignored.
My son fell and chipped a front tooth when he was 4. The dentist told
me to ignore it since the tooth was close to falling out on its own
anyway because the chip happened to a baby tooth.
I did ignore it but the tooth started to bother my son. None of the x-rays
showed problems, but over a couple of months, the tooth bothered my son
more and more. They still couldn't find a problem. Then the dentist did
the x-ray himself--he used some different type of film and positioned it
higher than the assistant had been doing. They found an infection way,
way high in the gums that was was a result of the trauma to that tooth.
It had damaged the root to that baby tooth, and was threatening the root
of the tooth next to it and the big tooth above it, so they had to pull that
baby tooth and the one next to it as well. Even though all you could see
was a tiny little chip in his baby tooth, you would be surprised at what
that tooth's root and the root of the tooth next to it looked like. I was
horrified by that and very glad that they found the infection before it
damaged his permanent teeth. His two adult teeth came in just fine
after that.
I'd definitely go to the dentist.
By the way, when they did this procedure--pulling the two front teeth
of a 4-year old--the office closed down so that it was just my son there.
The assistants and the office staff each brought in a stuffed animal
for my kid. Everyone in the office surrounded him in the chair and each
one distracted him with a new stuffed animal. My son came out smiling,
thrilled to be holding about 6 stuffed animals. He didn't even know when
they did it. I thought that was so sweet. I'm still with that
same dentist because he's good at what he does and because of how
kindly he treats people.

ive chipped two teeth. the first time, i was 7, fell down the stairs, and a little less than half the tooth chipped. ive since had it "redone" about 5 times. the second time was one of my front teeth, a few months ago. i think it was from biting something i shouldnt have, like a piece of plastic (oral fixation. i put too many things in my mouth). it was a tiny, tiny chip, so i havent done anything about it.
my dentist thought nothing of it. i showed her when i went for my root canal. she said "oh paulina, you're gonna make me rich"

I don't cut corners with dentistry. I have dental-related trigeminal
neuralgia and see a dentist and a neurologist who are skilled and sympathetic
in this area. Most dental students are still learning, are a little clumsy,
and don't know much about extenuating circumstances.
Maybe for a cleaning, I'd cut a corner or two, but I tend to give that
business to my dentist because he treats me with care and
kindness--especially if I have to have work done on a root and it
brings on the TN. And because of the TN, he goes very gently with me
and doesn't mind being conservative even if that means being a little
more risky (which I know goes against his nature but he does that
because the alternative is worse for me).
