The 8th for me. I can't wait, even though the grown up world is knocking ever so loudly at my door now it's the last year of college. :(

Story of my life! (y)

I'm thinking of taking a gap year before uni [if I get in] to work for 6 months in an orphanage or summit in Thailand. Do you uni goers reckon it's a good idea to take one before uni?

YAY SCHOOL!

yeah

thats a good idea I wish I had taken a gap year. I really didn't want to go onto uni after my A-levels cause I was fed up with it all but i did, and I think it would've been cool to get a nice year long break before jumping in.

That's what I've been told. The course I would like to do doesn't allow gap years halfway through so...*in Our Graham's voice of Blind Date fame*

..the time, is NOW!

Becky could have come too I guess.

Beckalina
08-26-2005, 05:41 AM

we should've migrated to neverland, Michael Jackson would keep us safe.

Freebasser

Exactly.

Beckalina

You guys could travel after! I'll see you in the Netherlands!

Oh, you meant Neverland, oh okay.

Seriously though, it's either backbacking throughout Europe or Thailand, but I don't know how to tell my friend that I'm going to be staying put for a while if it's Thailand. :o

Beckalina

When I was in grade school and in the early part of high school, school
always started the day after Labor Day (the first Monday in September).
I'd watch the Jerry Lewis telethon and get my stuff ready for school the
next day.

Then with the combination of bussing and a string of bad winter snow
storms (which sometimes forced school closings), they started messing
with the start date for school. Now it usually happens before Labor Day.
It used to be maybe around the 29th of August. Then it became like the
27th. The earliest I've seen is 22 August. The average for my son was
26 August. He goes back to university on Sunday (28 Aug) and to classes
the next day. That's not too bad but starting back in August--even if
it's only by a day or two--makes it feel like you didn't quite get all of
summer under your belt.

(One elementary school that he went to for a year--and it was a
REALLY relaxed sort of place--didn't start until around the 10th of
September. They gave them 1-3 days off each month, 5 weeks off
in the winter, and another 3 weeks off in the Spring. And they let
out for the summer around 1-3 June.)

The cross country thing, yeah!

We were trying to plan it so we wouldn't end up too far south (i.e. Italy) and run out of money to get back to Calais to sail back home, hah, imagine that!

I'd like to do Thailand and Australia, and maybe NZ, but I'm a lowly, poor student, m'afraid.

If it's Thailand, I'll bring you back a tranny, deal?

Beckalina

oh wow I've always wanted a thai lady boy to call my own.

*wipes away tear*

wait the trannie is for me, right?

Sure, and I'll make sure he's one of those unlucky enough to have feet that cannot ever be mistaken for anything other than a mans.

School start in early/mid August here.
That's because you have to learn English. In schools here, English is an elective.
