for people who haven't seen the movie and are hovering their mouse over the title, don't click on this thread.... i'm asking for spoilers... kinda....

ok so Brad Pitt was Norton's imaginery friend? was this due to his insomnia or maybe he was a sckitzo or something? is there anything i missed here? or is that just it...

btw: the porn pic at the end was pretty funny. and did anyone notice the same type of thing but with some person near the start of the movie? they flash on screen next to whatever the camera is focused on for a milisecond.

yup, Norton "created" Tyler subconciously as a way to change his life around. He couldn't do it himself, so he made an alter-ego which was all the things he wasnt. And he "became" that alter-ego.
So for the start of the movie he is Norton's character, and as it progresses he becomes Tyler Durden, and flips between the two as he freaks out.

Yeah, the subliminal flashes are funny.

ahh i see..
the whole army thing was weird and when he dreamt about fucking *whats her face*... he was actually fucking her. then he woke up (from his other ego) so to speak.

I just can't get into Diary. Choke and Survivor were my favorites, but I've yet to read Invisible Monsters and Haunted. Diary isn't great, but Palahunik's worst is better than most writer's average.

shure to each their own, diary is very depressing. all his books are out of stock over here.. but choke, survivor and those others are on my list.

it's not that it's depressing or anything, It's just not making sence to me. It's probably because I'm reading it while distracted or the fact that I'm also reading American Psycho and The Virgin Suicides at the same time. I'll probably like it better when I re-read it.

I didn't like Haunted at all.

I enjoyed most of what he's done so far though.

Fight Club, Survivor and Lullabaye were probably my 3 favorites.

not even the short stories? I heard thats the best reason for buying the book, and that the overall story wasn't good. even so, I'm wating till it comes out on paperback to buy it. I don't like buying books in hardcover.

Go to the library.

The short stories peaked too early. The best one was the 1st one.

The first 20 pages or so of the book were great, the rest just dragged along.

I remember little about this film except that I liked it and that it
took me a long time to see it. The pre-movie hype hyped up
its violence factor and I didn't want to see it for that reason. But
friends dragged me to watch it because they saw it in the theaters
and it blew them away. It featured the sort of violence that doesn't
bother me much (it didn't have any war violence, torture, or
murders/rapes--there were no unwilling participants
in the fight scenes as far as I remember).

Brad Pitt seems to pick interesting movies.

A big difference I noticed between the book and the movie is how much of Tyler in the movie is just Brad Pitt looking and acting the way he does. He does a great job. The book never goes into much detail about describing Tyler except that it says he's young and thin and charismatic but it never describes him quite as flamboyantly dressed.

It does describe his fashion sence as "unclaimed clothes from the lost and found", though. But the book has him wearing stained sweat pants and old t-shirts.

I wonder if Tyler Durden and Fight Club the movie would have been as popular if the character had been played by someone less attractive than Brad Pitt, and wearing stained old dirty dull clothes. I know the book was wildly popular and Tyler is supposed to be seductive and exciting, but the look of Pitt in the movie, I wonder how much that had to do with snagging some guys or if it didn't factor into the male viewers much at all - the wacky clothes and such.

probably not. Pitt adds to the attraction of the film and it's undying following. Incedentally, I didn't picture Brad Pitt as Tyler Durden while I was reading the novel, and I saw the movie a good three years before I read the book.

some people have legally changed their names to Tyler Durden.

I liked American Psycho but it sickened me. That's another one where you're not sure what's real and what's schizophrenic hallucination, or maybe the whole thing is hypothetical and metaphorical. I love those kinds of stories - a blend of sci-fi, philosophy, metaphysical representation...

Who do you think on this board is the closest we have to a Patrick Bateman?

English Japanese English

Perhaps it is not that. The Undying Pitt should continue adding obtaining in charm of the film. When me reading the book before as the Tyler Durden, me 3 years while reading, the novel as for the Incedentally and the I, the nail Pitt which is hooked by the good projection picture AM shellfish was not pulled it is to be seen

(haha shellfish! wtf?)

I think the movie was more straightforward in telling us that it was all in his head. I like the book alot more, though it did sicken me at points (like when he kills the bum or the kid, or when he says Huey Luis is better than Elvis Costello). I just like the air of mistery around the murders, as in if they were real or not.

Damaja was the closest thing we had to pat bateman. nuff said.

American Psycho made me physically ill - which no other book has ever accomplished.

The parts where he's drilling and eating made me fell like I had to vomit for the next week.

I still have never re-read that book, and I've read every other book in my library at least twice over my life (I read A LOT).

Anyhow, if you haven't already, read Less Than Zero - way, WAY better than the stupid movie they made in the 80's with Robert Downey Jr. and Andrew what's his fuck.

Also, read Catcher in the Rye - Less than Zero is an 80's version of it.

Great reads all around.

I remember doing this--not consciously--with The Secret History.
It almost felt as though each part was written for specific then-popular
actors. I expected a movie to come on the heels of that book but it
didn't (or if it did, it came and went quickly).
