I've bought lots of things on ebay, never had any problems...but my most recent purchase...well I'm not sure yet but there is potentially a problem....
I emailed the seller to ask them to let me know when they shipped the item so I could keep and eye out for it and....the sent me back a message saying:
"I wanted to let you know there will be a slight delay on shipping your item. i am having unexpected surgery tomorrow. I will be back and well on Tuesday. Thanks"
I want to give everyone the benefit of the doubt, but I'd say that's highly suspisous right there. I should have looked at thier rating before I bid. they don't have any negative feed back, only positive but thier rating is only 9 (all for items they bought) and the item I won is the only item they've ever sold on ebay. WHAT THE FUCK WAS I THINKING? I suppose if it's a scam i deserve it for being so dumb.
and if this is a real excuse......so like what if she dies in surgery? I'M NOT GETTING MY SHIT!

^ I'm convinced that happens all the time on ebay. However, I think often it just ends up scaring off real potential bidders.(n)

i spent 30 some odd dollars on a text book that never came. i inquired about it around 2 weeks after i had bought it. ebay never responded to me, but i founf out that the seller was no longer registered
i've never been a fan of eBay. my close mate has recently got hooked on to it. i told him it's gonna turn around and bite him on the arse one day.

Wayne sold a medical machine for $1200 on Ebay. His dad told him to sell it for $800 and if he put it any higher, no one would buy it, and lo and behold, someone did. So the way he sees it, he should keep the extra $400.
And I concur.

I bought a used CD cheap and it's been 3 weeks and the seller won't respond to email. But it was only $8 including shipping and I've bought about 80 things with no problems. But it's a nice reminder what you're dealing with.

i was in a similar situation when i purchased a dust cover for my 1200. fortunately, it wasn't very expensive and i finally received it. but it took major long and many a phone call/e-mail. from that experience, i decided never to purchase anything exorbitantly priced through ebay. unless it's a soul.

I don't know that that in and of itself is so unusual. Shit happens. Surgical procedures can occasionally be scheduled rather quickly - biopsies and the like are best done as quickly as possible, you know? At least the seller has contacted you, and given you a date when they should be able to resume their business. I say let it ride, and if you haven't heard from them by, say, Thursday, drop a note and be very nice and tell them you hope they are doing and well and inquire again as to when you might expect to recieve your item.
I swear I already complained to you people about the Joy Division poster I ordered. I bought this poster from a store on e-bay that specializes in posters. It only cost me 99 cents, but the all the "fees" the guy made me pay, it jacked the price to 10.50. the poster came four weeks late, and when I opened it, it was a crappy scan with numerous flaws. It was also nowhere near how big he made it seem in the ad. left negative feedback, but thats all I can do. I still have the poster, though, because I'm not letting some asshole ruin my appreciation of a rather good poster.

I've got a bunch of Star wars shit I'm thinking of selling. Was planning to use ebay, but all of these stories kinda scare me. :(

I'd believe her and give her a couple of weeks before going deeper.
I would respond and ask her when, after her surgery, she
expects to be able to ship the item. Then I'd follow through with it
from that date. I'd give her maybe one more chance after that before I
started to sound more mean in the correspondence. Maybe do that a
time or two and then start a mediation. Basically, you're talking about
a process that'll probably take a few weeks. It's a pain.
I went through several months where I did a lot of ebaying for a friend
who didn't have access. It was a pain a few times when the seller took
the money but wouldn't respond about shipping dates. For three separate
transactions, I got to a point where I had to do a mediation or something
like that. It's a formal thing that you can do through ebay and I think it
sends a message to a seller to do something or ebay will be pissed.
Sellers who are sneaky like one of these three were will not give you
a rating until you give them one. So if you start a mediation and then
give the seller a negative rating, they'll give you one back. That part
of the system could be improved somewhat. (You can respond to negative
feedback but that's silly.)
Good luck.

I almost got scammed once by some Swedish guy.
He failed to send me an item and I e-mailed him to find out where it was. He replied saying his bank account had been suspended because of financial irregularities so he couldn't send anything until he could afford to parcel all his items.
I promptly withdrew my offer, and ebay deleted his account a week later, so I got away without losing any money, thank god.

Yeah, this annoys me, and it happened to a friend of mine who left negative feedback for an item that took two months to arrive.
I never give a seller feedback unless they already gave me positive feedback. My only responsibility as the buyer is to pay. I pay immediately. When the thing comes, if they haven't given me positive feedback for paying immediately, I just delete the item from "my ebay" without leaving feedback for the seller.
I just noticed that the place I bought the CD from had 7 negative feedbacks in the past 6 months. I normally wouldn't buy from someone like that, but it was so cheap I didn't pay attention. I lose the auctions for most of the cheap bids I make so I don't treat it very seriously.

^yeah, I never leave feedback about an item until I receive it. I don't bother with neutral feed back either. either it's positive or negative. actually I've never had to leave negative feedback (crosses fingers).
I actually did give this person the benefit of the doubt. emailed her and said I hoped her surgery wasn't serious and to get well soon....and to please keep in touch with me so I will know what to expect. that's all I can do, until this plays out and I see if i need to take further action. but hopefully goodness and honesty will prevail!

That's so sweet.
And I hope you get your item!
