I haven't even unwrapped the CD (http://www.cduniverse.com/productinfo.asp?pid=1095830&style=music&cart=267089871) yet. This is my first Bjork album & I was told by some fans to get this one or Homogenic--I thought I should go by release date.

More later.................

Welcome to 1995.

Strange? I dunno....I think it is a good introduction to Bjork. I probably listen to it the most out of all the Bjork albums I have.

For people with 5.1 systems, most of Bjork's studio albums were remixed into 5.1 surround form & a couple months ago released as a boxset.

But now they're starting to sell these surround remix discs individually. Like cduniverse (http://www.cduniverse.com/sresult.asp?style=music&HT_SEARCH=XARTIST&cart=371321587&HT_SEARCH_INFO=Bjork&HT_Search_Name=Bjork&altsearch=yes) for example. Or Wherehouse (http://www.wherehouse.com/music/product-detail.jsp?id=2592884) (this link is for Post).

These are those Dualdisc things, a format I'm not all that fond of. That's because the CD side isn't exactly a CD and some players won't play them smoothly.....or play them at all.

But if that doesn't bother you, it's the dvd side where the good stuff is located. The surround tracks are in the form of 5.1 Dolby Digital and 5.1 DTS, which normal dvd players can handle. DTS usually sounds a bit better than Dolby, but your player has to be told to output that datastream (somehwere in its audio set up menu; and make sure your receiver has the "DTS" logo).

The surround mixes have received very good reviews. That's good because its' this kind of music i.e. super creative/unconventional/densely layered* material that benefits most from listening in surround form. And by surround I mean 5.1 tracks that were made from the studio's multitracks, not the "hall", "rock concert" or "Dolby Pro-Logic II" buttons on a receiver - those are simulated surround systems that randomly make up mixes based on computer software, which IMO has soured many people on surround music (unless they've heard REAL surround music like Bjork's, or Beck's, or Crystal Method's, or from Roxy Music, or from Refused, or by The Flaming Lips' or........).

And most of the discs also include videos (some have LOTS of videos!).

* densely layered: music that has lots going on. Without going into the physics of it, a good surround mix lets you more clearly hear subtle things you couldn't before - that's because a stereo mix literally has much less space to "fit" all those sounds together (between the left & right speakers), so the engineer has to lower their volume (among other things) to make them fit. And soemtimes they actually have to completely leave out certain sounds/instruments.

excellent album, but debut would've been just as good as an intro or even something from the Sugarcubes

homogenic is awesome, the following albums get noticably mellow
