I'm pretty dumb. There aren't many topics that I can speak knowledgeably about. I used to think I was smart, but I'm not.

I'm not fishing. Honest. (!)

This isn't a self esteem issue, it's just a fact.

You don't have to have a vast knowledge of things to be smart. You can have the ability to speak to people (have good people skills) and that is a type of smart.

Also, being resourceful is a type of smart too...

I'm just trying to help is all.

Everybody feels this way every now and again. Maybe its just because you are surrounded by geniuses? Maybe its because you are an allrounder rather than a specialist. I dunno. Because judging by your posts, in the politics and music forum's especially, you are far from dumb.

I bullshit alot. People are always asking me information or opinions on various things that I have very little knowledge of and I somehow come across as knowing what I'm talking about.

I think smart has more to do with being interested in things rather than having a lot of knowledge stored in your brain.

If you seriously care about your breadth of knowledge, is there something you're interested in that you don't know much about? I went to college, but I I rarely took liberal arts classes and I was embarrassed about how little I knew. I started reading and got interested in things and it made me read more and learn more. Sometimes you don't want to read 500 pages about an ex president or a civil rights leader but you want to know who he was. I sometimes check juvenile nonfiction books out of my library when I want to know just a little about some topic.

These are very effective tools. I do this as well. I also make constant hand gestures, try hard to not blink, stare intently into the other person's eyes, crack my knuckles a lot and pound my fist against the table for emphasis.

Also, visibly and audibly breathing through your nostrils is a good way to make yourself look smarter when conversing with your intellectual superiors, of which I have very few.

I'm not really either. I mean, I am smart, but I can't really hold a good conversation about a lot of things cause I just don't know about them. I think that's why I find guys who read a lot or who really know a lot about a certain thing really attractive, because I don't have that myself...if that makes sense. I have always wanted to know everything about everything but I don't put any effort into learning it, and I have a bad memory so unless I read something 10 times over, I won't remember it anyway.

But none of it really matters since I intend to sleep my way to the top.

i can establish common ground for conversation purposes with just about anyone. i'm not smart, i'm clever. i know a little bit about everything and fuck all about anything specific and of importance. such is life.

It's better to know what you're talking about than just know about a lot of things.

I wouldn't say that you're dumb, you just have special needs that need to be acknowledged prior to conversation. Nothing wrong with it.

i tend to feel this way abouy myself as well. i dont really know a lot or do much of anything very well, but i don't embarrass myself either. its a happy medium
