-pancakes. i don't know why, but i've never cooked a perfect pancake in my life. i always either don't leave them on long enough, or burn them, or make them too greasy, and end up having to throw away have the batch.

-tempeh bacon. i ALWAYS burn this shit. i'll take it off, then realize it's not cooked enough, then char it.

-soyrizo. this stuff always manages to either get burned or not get cooked enough.

-vegan pizza. the vegan cheese is such a pain in the ass to melt just right...and i always end up burning the roof of my mouth on it anyway.

what do you always fuck up when you're cooking?

Egg Drop Soup. I can never make it all yummy like. I'm not saying I'm a great chef or anything but I usually make some good eats. I just can't get that egg drop soup down. And its supposedly really simple. Fuck.

I've tried on, several occasions, to make angel food cake for my dad. Every time I've done that, though, it starts out fine but then it rises through the rafters of the oven and makes a big fucking burned up stinky mess. It winds up looking like the opposite of what it's supposed to be.

I use my oven for storage.

scramble eggs and pancakes.
But I could make a mean nice tasty sub sandwich or a vegan sandwich which most people love about me.

Ditto. They say the first one is always crap - to prove the pan or something. Well my second, third and fourth are crap too.

People: invest in a rice cooker/steamer. Perfect every time. (y)

Simple breakfast for two is tough for me. I can't coordinate eggs, toast and a meat product so it's all hot an yummy at the same time.

I used to make fabulous baked custard and jelly roll and I can't get it right anymore. I think because I don't have my mom's pans and the recipes are the wrong size for my pans.

refrigerator cookies, either too dry or too runny. I can't make the croissants shaped right to save my life.

use a non-stick griddle or very wide skillet. Do not use grease or Pam. Preheat the griddle so that the batter doesn't spread to far when you pour it on. use a fourth cup of batter for each pancake. the smaller you make them the easier it is, at least until you get the hang of it. flip them when the batter on top starts to bubble. Then once both sides are "set" you can flip them alternately until they are as golden brown as you like them on each side.

ooh, thanks avignon. i'm thinking about investing in a nice breakfast griddle that can go over the burners on my stove, so i can cook everything at once...anyone have any opinions on those?

We use a non-stick pan for pancakes, no grease and they turn out pretty good....never experienced a griddle. If it works though, it might be something to look into...

I like a griddle for pancakes because you can do a whole stack at once and they brown evenly and come out more uniform in size and shape. I think it's more difficult to flip them in the skillet too since you have to angle the spatula to get it under them-it sometimes causes them to fold. :( A griddle is a good investment if you plan to use it often enough to be worth your money.

I'm totally useless with pancakes as well. Our pancakes are totally different from the American ones, they're more like crepes but thicker. I make them very rarely so I never got the hang of it.

Also I suck at making gravy and sauces. I just learned from a cooking show that you have to let the flour cook for at least five minutes so it gets the right texture, guess I've always been too unpatient.

And I usually forget the rice, I've noticed I have to be very carefull with the measures, just the right amount of water is essential.

And I forget chick peas on boil for the hummus cause I always end up sitting here checking BBMB and forget about them. I've burnt several casseroles to unidentified objects because of this forum....

hard boiled eggs....never get the timing right.
this i can help with...if you want.

just cover the eggs with water.

when they come to a boil let them boil for 1 minute then remove them from the heat and let them sit in the water for 10 minutes. I have never been dissappointed with my eggs since i started doing them this way

Microwave Popcorn... no shit.

um... and I can't deep fry anything... I either have the oil too hot, not hot enough, I burn the stuff, it's soggy, etc... probably a good thing though... I don't need to be eating that crap anyhow. It sure would be nice to be able to have tempura at home once in awhile though.

caramel- i make the egg custard really well but then when it comes to making the caramel you have to heat a tiny amount of water then put castign sugar in a stir it otherwise it burns onto the pan and your never getting it off. and before it burns it goes thick and so you cant pour it. you have tog et it just right and its a pain in the ass >.< (n)
