yeah, white stripes have really gone off the boil this last couple of years...

I haven't heard the song though...

I actually liked it for how Jackson 5 gay it was... :o

it only made my hate for white stripes grow ten fold.

meg white is such a shitty drummer. her backbeat is hitting two drums really slowly.

They are good live - or was a few years back

She is a good drummer live also.

This isn't the song or the cd to judge the Stripes by.

I think it's a terrific song.

The only thing on that album that's close to being a clunker is "Blue Orchid," in my mind.

"The Nurse," "Forever for Her (is Over for Me)," "My Doorbell," and "I'm Lonely (But I Ain't that Lonely Yet)" are out-of-the-gate classics.

People hating on The White Stripes? That's something as incomprehensible as Bush still being in office...

I liked everything else the white stripes have done but My Doorbell is so incredibly retarded its difficult to acknowledge it actually exists and isnt just a figment of mine and everyone elses imagination.

The whole album is the same old stupid crap they've done for 4 albums. Its self indulgent and irritating now. They can shut the fuck up and never write another album before their more recent shit makes their older better stuff unlistenable.

^so do I. more of that would not have beeen a bad thing.. reminded me a bit of some Eagles of Death Metal...but I don't think its a bad album. Jack just seems to have decided to do a straight piano for guitar swap on some tracks. not too creative in my mind. but its still better than 90% of music out there.

Drederick Tatum

...or should that be guitar for piano?...anyway more riffs were needed.

Meg White drums like a wind-up monkey.

I remember all those British rock journalists comparing the Stripes to Zep, and the audible turning of John Bonham in his cold, cold grave.

right...

i can't see the "artistic" difference between an idiot singing about his doorbell and some fool saying how gangsta he is in da club.

when the white stripes go all poppy and sell-outish; this song will be one of them "classic" songs, like seven nation army.

that song gave me the shits the first time i heard it, but i really like it now. do people hate it because its a really simple song? are we so used to these massive songs with guitar solos and orchestra back-ups featuring some other artist to give it some cred? i dunno, i just like it

I used to hate that song until I found out that it's the favorite song of a certain 3-year-old girl.

I love the orchid song.

I've changed my mind and I'm solidly pro-Meg.

Jack does sound very early Robert Plant and I've decided that's a good thing.

Best live act I've seen in months.

I'm not a fan of the Stripes and never have been. I don't hate them. I sort of respect their music. I'd rather listen to the Stripes than a lot of the horrible crap that's on the radio.

As for My Doorbell, it's probably the only real Stripes song I've ever enjoyed by them.

me too.

i'm listening to doorbell now. what's wrong with you people, it rocks!

it might help if you listen to the music rather than watch the videos.

i did listen. and all i hear was balony about Jack waiting for someone to his doorbell.
i didn't give a shit about the clip.

funny, i don't even really hear the words -- i just like the sounds, the tempo, rhythm whatever. i like that it's quite a simple, empty song. the ending is a bit crap tho.

the lyrics probably are banal, but i don't listen to any of the white stripes' lyrics. in fact i don't listen to many lyrics, unless it's someone like the eels or elliott smith. i usually just make them up to suit myself :D

Sometimes you guys just have to chill and accept the fact that "silly" songs like "My Doorbell" can be just as effective as the "epic" and "profound" tracks.

I agree, except I enjoy Seven Nation Army to a point.

They're decent at best. I don't understand the big deal about them. I've listened to their albums, given them lots of chances. They're not that spectacular.

And Droppin, of course a song doesn't have to be an epic or profound to be good. But it shouldn't be boring, either.

werd. i like songs with clever lyrics and good music to back it up. to me, white stripes make fairly boring music.

Personally, I love the song for the fact that it reminds me of some really old-fashioned R&B, and it just makes me smile. Hell, even the way he sings such a ridiculously simple thing like: "I've been thinkin' about my doorbell. When you gonna ring it?" sounds like it's full of passion, you'd think he was singing about something with substance.

I can't help all y'all if you're too cynical.
