While ordering coffee at Starbucks.
Larry David: I'll have a vanilla... one of those vanilla bullshit things. You know, whatever you want, some vanilla bullshit latte cappa thing. Whatever you got.

The new season starts on 25 September.
Curb is the only reason I keep HBO.
I have never felt as embarassed for a character on tv before in my life and i love it.
"are you my caucasian? are YOU my caucasian?"

I gave CyE a good shot and it's.... mmmmokay. Pretty annoying and one-note, though, but if you like that one note, it must be heaven.
Some comedians have one schtick and they don't vary from it. Larry David is one of those people and I don't like it; Emo Phillips is one of those people and I do like it.
One thing I think you can't argue with: Curb Your Enthusiasm is one of the more poorly-acted shows around.

I hated it the first few times I watched it. But when I tried it again later, I loved it. And then it became wildly popular. I wonder if those early shows used a formula that they later changed. I should go back and rewatch Season 1.
I'm curious to see what Curb does in this new season. Monk, which I used to watch faithfully, has suffered because they've overdone his quirkiness and it often borders on silliness. (Although casting John Turturro as Monk's brother and having him return this season was genius.)
Curb could easily go the way of Monk and suffer from overdoing Larry's quirkiness. I hope not. (So far, though, with Curb, even the ridiculous stuff still works or has worked. Prime example: the restaurant's grand opening obscenities scene--that just would not happen in real life but it was perfect in the context of this show.)

"are you my caucasian? are YOU my caucasian?"
"I thought we were kool-de-la?"- Krazee eyes Killa
i wonder what the premise of the next season will bring for Larry...
season one seemed to revolve around them, in true Seinfeld form, doing nothing... finding a new house, hanging out with richard Lewis and Ted Danson, Porno gil (Bob Odenkirk) was my favorite episode, "Tabasco Sauce, YOW!!!"...
season two followed Larry trying to shake his success from Seinfeld and him pitching new shows to all the networks...
" What, you're a shrimp counter now? I tell you what, why don't you take your three hundred and seventy five million dollars and buy yourself a fucking shrimp boat" -
Alan Wasserman, HBO exec
season three was the business investment with the restaurant...
"Got to plumb. Plumb The Depths, the depths of hell..."
Larry to a plumber
and season four, we saw Larry rehearse and eventually open in his Broadway Debut, in the Producers as Max Bialystock... First Alongside Ben Stiller then eventually David Scwhimmer...( I just saw The Producers on Broadway, and I couldbt help think of "Curb Your enthusiasm")
meanwhile, he is trying to cash in on his one-time sexcapade his wife promised him ten years ago... Larry reminded Cheryl she once told him if they lasted ten years, he could have an affair with her permission...

Its not poorly acted, its shot in a really inventive way: they have no script, just a general outline of where the scene is gonna lead to. At most they have a few key sentences that they have to put in.
"Are you a Jew?"
Larry: "DO YOU WANT TO SEE MY PENIS?"
Ahh, great stuff.

Right--I remember reading about that. In that scenario and considering that so many of them are or have been stand-up comedians, it must be really hard to 1) keep a straight face and 2) get a solid take. They probably welcome the challenge, but I'd just be laughing all the time. Imagine ad libbing like that with Richard Lewis. (If you've ever seen him being interviewed, you'll know what I mean.)

...improvisation doesn't excuse bad acting. Look at something like Diner or a lot of Scorsese's or Altman's movies -- lots of improv has happened (sometimes rehearsed, sometimes not), and the acting is still seamless. In Curb your Enthusiasm, there are too many times when you can see stuttering going on because someone can't think of a line or they've blown a line or something. It's just poor. The only reason Larry David's improv doesn't come off as poorly is because he has basically four expressions, and two of 'em are blank: it's not hard to look like you're staying in character when 1) you ARE that character, and 2) your map is something of an expressionless cipher to begin with.

I agree that the acting is pretty bad. it's still funny though. However, I can't watch the show that much, or I get annoyed. I've never been a fan of "mr. magoo" type comedy...like, "oh no! he's gotten himself into another mess!" *shakes head* "that silly Larry"
small doses

Mr. Magoo, Three Stooges, Benny Hill--those shows do nothing for me. But Curb doesn't feel that way at all. Maybe it will in time, but it doesn't right now. I can take it in bigger doses than what we've been given recently.

...does she play Larry's wife? She has moments of hotness. If her acting was any good, she'd be pretty consistently hot.

yeah, she is the wife, and i totally agree with you on that one. she has those certain points where she just hits it. and then other times she is just a regular nagging wife
larry david is a one-trick pony. i might not like him, but goddammit if i don't respect him.

Yeah maybe, I honestly don't think its that bad. I don't really need the acting to be good in any case, I just think its funny. And Cheryl is hot, but less so as time goes on.
And what the hell is an expressionless cipher?!
