...okay, so: I'm headed to the used store this evening for a fairly big buy.

Name a favorite CD in your heart of hearts -- any type of music at all -- and why you love it more than my mom. I'll give it a shot and maybe buy it, too.

All guitar themed, but...anything by Richard Thompson, although his latest album might not be the best pick. Maybe early Jonny Lang if you don't already have that. For fun, maybe the Hellecasters. Or maybe some Robben Ford; he's based in California so if you like him, you could probably catch him live. He plays the Berkeley area frequently.

I love "Kind of Blue" by Miles Davis more than your mom because I've never met your mom.

I'm sure she's a very nice person though, inside and out.

I've got Kind of Blue already, and a few other Miles Davis albums ("...and Bill Evans and John Coltrane -- also KoB players" the smartass said :D )

....you're also way off base about my mom, too. ;)

I've got some of RT's stuff; like him a lot, in spite of his whole woman-walks-behind-you-ten-steps thang. I've heard nothing but raves about the new album... you don't care for it?

Johnny Lang is a GREAT suggestion. I'm writing that down.

Robben Ford... yeesh; I haven't heard his stuff in YEARS. Might be time to give him another shot. Seems like I remember him putting out an album on No Speak... do you remember that series? It might have been a subdivision of IRS.

Hmmm... Orbital, the blue album. It's their last ever album (unless they reconsider *fingers crossed*) and a very good one. Mix of ambient, techno, acid and... well... stuff.

It's also the last album I listened to (about 30 minutes ago :D)

Jonny Lang--he's a sweet heart too so you'd have something to look at and maybe talk about with that Starbucks cashier.

Robben Ford--I like him as a person and a musician.

Richard Thompson's latest--it hasn't completely pulled me in yet. I've never not liked any of his stuff so chances are that it'll woo me eventually. I'm just not there yet.

God, this is awful but.... I can't remember if I've heard Orb or Orbital.

I'd know if I saw the cover, I suppose.

Only problem you'll have is that it will most likely not be at the store. You can always check under Public Image Ltd. for the album or for a very good Pil album...which is just about all of them.

Nah; they'll have it. I'll look for it.

I picked up a PiL album a few months back, because I keep thinking I like Flowers of Romance more than I do.

Besides! -- you're on ignore, Norcen. Go away.

I think The Orb makes mostly ambient, not sure though, never heard much of their work.

The confusion is understandable ;)

The Trews-House of Ill Fame
The Trews-Den of Thieves

Good old rock and roll. House of Ill Fame is better, more of a bar-ish sound to them. The new one, Den of Thieves, is much better produced and it sounds more generic-rock like. Which is alright, but HIF is mucho better.

And uh, your mom said it's cool.

Anything by John Spillane, an Irish folk singer. He's got great tunes, though you may have to order it on the net.

I'm not a mad fan of rock, but these two are excellent: (Obviously, you may have them already)

At the Drive In: Relationship of Command
The Cooper Temple Clause: See This Through And Leave.

I can't believe there hasn't been any jokes about your mom yet. Especially, y'know, because of the 'stuff' she's been involved in.

get 'leave luck to heaven' or 'backstroke' by matthew dear.

matthew is an attractive young texan, now based in michigan. during the early 2000s he made a name for himself with some rather tasty microhouse cuts. with the two releases mentioned above, he branched into poppier areas by adding his baritone tones to many of the tracks. in short, if you enjoyed villalobos then you should enjoy this.

Funny enough, though, I did get Leave Luck to Heaven. (!)

Here's what I got: about $72 after tax.

Ricardo Villalobos - Alcachofa
Ricardo Villalobos - Taka Taka
Matthew Dear - Leave Luck to Heaven
Antonio Carlos Jobim - Stone Flower
Thelonious Monk - Complete Blue Note (4 CD set)
The Amazing Bud Powell, Volume 2
Buddy Holly - The "Chirping Crickets" (remaster) (y)

Also got some books: George Eliot's Silas marner and two Par Lagerkvist novels -- The Dwarf (amazing, amazing book) and The Sybil. $3.23 including tax. (y)

...and a wool hat from a street vendor for $18.35 (all the cash I had left... he wanted $25).

I figured. It's out-of-print, I believe. Virgin Records apparently didn't promote it well. Your best bet is online. I highly suggest you check it out.

I'd like to get Wobble's Commercial Zone. It's basically This is What You Want...This is What You Get with his stuff left in it.

Amoeba's pretty good, so I was sincerely surprised that they didn't have it. Plus, you're on "ignore."

This is What You Want... ugh. That's a poor album. The company was really pushing it at the time, surprisingly enough; even in Indiana, we were getting promo copies.

I'd recommend the olivia tremor control's black foliage. They're compared to the beatles a lot, which has some merit but it is probably overstated, because they have a lot of influences in electronic and indie music. It's probably the best neo-psych album out there, so if you have any taste for the genre you should pick it up.

I see him live about three times a year but I've never loved any of his CDs without Linda. I know I'm just missing Linda, but that's how it is.

I haven't listened to the new one much, but some songs are familiar. I'm guessing he played them live. I know for sure that he did Should I Betray? because I remember the audience laughing. I do love that song. :)
