What is - or would be - your family's response to the news that you are - or hypothetically were - seriously dating someone several years older or younger than you? Say, 10 years or more.

I'm so fucking old and wealthy that me dating 10 years younger girls only makes me look cooler

But you're European, it's done there. I've seen young Northern European men, and I've seen the women. Like doi.

When I was 18, I dated a guy who was 28; they liked him so it wasn't a problem.

When I was 27, I dated a guy who was 38; they didn't like him so there was tension.

Bottom line: age didn't matter, just the person.

...people always think I'm 27, 28, anyway. depending on the amount of beer I've had in the past week.

so, to be honest, once you hit 30 fuc... dating 23-24-olds is not that bad

When I was 18 I dated a guy who was 29. They never met him but it's just as well because he was pretty pathetic. Still, I don't think they would have liked the idea of it. Maybe that has more to do with their opinion of me than their stance on the "issue"

Right. Indeed. Maybe I should say 20 years or more difference. What would the families think, do you think?

When I was 17 I started dating a 30 year old, and my folks were PISSED. They insisted I stop seeing her, pronto.

Really, I wasn't that crazy about the woman or I would've put up a fight. It was a good excuse to break things off.

Lemmy's Liver

well, my point is REALLY that if you are below 20, dating a geeza at 30 is just downright wrong.

I would meet a guy at 29 dating a girl of 18, I would just laugh and walk away.

once you spend a few years practicing life with them young ones, it's time to go for that experience, charm, wit & charisma

I think when you are over 22ish or so, age shouldn't really matter. You are pretty much who you are going to be.

I understand people tripping out on the teenager dating the 25 and above crowd.

Then again, when i was 16, I was dating an 18 year old and they were calling her a craddle robber.

My ex-husband was six years older than me. My boyfriend now is four years younger. I don't think age mattered at all with the husband, but it may be a tiny issue with the boyfriend since he's younger than my little brother and they think of my brother's maturity (or rather immaturity) level and compare it to that... My parents will be meeting my boyfriend in just under a month though, so I guess we'll see...

it depends. At younger ages, a lot of use were still living with our parents, so it's an issue when in the same household.

However, when I was dating someone older than me I lived with my parents, and I just didn't tell them anyway. Heh.

my parents always use to say, maybe you've heard this one: "age is a matter of the mind and if you don't mind it doesn't matter. they delt with plenty of prejudice when they first got together, but by the time I was born most of the kinks had already been worked out. My eldest half sister had the most difficult time though and I can totally understand becasue my mother went to her highschool and was a senior when she was a freshman. NOw my dad didn't meet my mom until she was in her mid 20's, but still, understanably it was hard for my sister to accept.

the other reality to a may/december relationship is that if you end up spending your lives together..one of you is obviously going to outlive the other. My mom was widowed at 50 and has had a really hard time rebuilding her life. My dad was her everything. So based on my experiences of having lost my dad and seen the struggles my mom is going through, I probably would have to think very seriously about getting involved with someone who was alot older than me. but then again if you asked my mom...she would say better to have loved and lost than to never have loved at all. even though she lost my dad she wouldn't trade the love they had for anything.

plus I wouldn't be here if they hadn't got together.
