I joined netflix yesterday and now have 243 DVDs in my que. I'm a little enthusiastic, yes, if you couldn't already tell by the fact that this has its own thread. I feel like I've seen a LOT of good movies, but there are always more out there, and my knowledge of foreign films is highly limited especially in regards to Japanese movies which I hear are pretty good these days and back in the 40s. Annnnyway. Netflix. Whats up? 1 movie at a time for 10 dollar a month. Good deal.

You need to rethink that netflix queue in light of this (http://www.beastieboys.com/bbs/showthread.php?t=55595). :o

watch more movies is number 5 on the list of things to do.

I know. Just calling attention to the fact that 243 movies isn't going to leave much time for the other dozen or so things in that list. Just trying to help nat. :)
I was doing the blockbuster mail thing (well my sister was/is, but I would add movies to it all the time)...but had to stop. I would watch a movie a day + all the tv I watch on the regular. For about a month or two, I would get home from work and sit in front of the television until I fell asleep, only with breaks to go to work, bathroom, or drink. It became a bit much.
That is exactly why I can't get a TiVo no matter how bad I want it.
I find that I can do a lot more with my day since I don't add any movies to the queue. Like sit in front of the computer.

i did the 3 at a time one, i liked that better because i had 3 to choose from each time i wanted to watch a movie, and would just send them back one at a time then

All I see is crazy talk.
Why don't you sprinkle some more feces on your walls Nuzzo? :p
Teasing aside, this Netflix thing sounds interesting.

I movie at a time and I don't have TV. I'll be okay. In fact I'll be so movie geek cool...this really is a good deal 1 movie a week from blockbuster costs more than this would, and Blockbuster doesn't have a good selection. So far it's all movies I've never seen. Or episodes of TV shows. I've got some of those on there - I think I've seen some of them before.

^You're annoying and unfunny.
In other news. I sort of hate this. I want to see these movies just like I want to read books and such but I hate bringing things into my life. I'm turning into an old stubborn granny already. I hated getting a cell phone last year, hated the computer choosing business. I want to grow and change and see things but I hate the painful process of it all. It's good for me though, force myself to do things I know I want to do but hate doing.

I thought my 145 was over ambitious. I've also had Seven Samurai at my house for 2 weeks and I haven't watched it yet.

Seven Samurai: It's long, and really not that great. There's a couple of characters in there I thought were kinda cool, and it has it's moments, but it's pretty over-rated. I certainly don't see how it got up to #5 in the top 250 movies (http://www.imdb.com/chart/top). But then looking at that list I can't understand how a lot of them have got so far up..

No no, ignore anyone else in the thread. DVD Shrink. Free, gets past copy protection, and enables me to send the 4 DVDs back out the day after I have got them
yeah he's right. i got the two programs confused

I wonder what the burner software on my computer would do, if it could not get passed the security of a regular DVD.

you should see Sanjuro and Yojimbo - both are Toshiro Mifune samurai movies dir by Akira Kurosawa, and both are shorter and easier to digest than the Seven Samurai.

You need a program that decodes css, you can't "just" copy a copyrighted dvd... unless you have the proper software to do it.
Let's see if I can find something.

You copy all the DVDs you get? You must have good storage space.

There are a couple of tools to rip dvd's on there. No clue which is good and which is bad considering I don't use osx :)
I'm guessing he burns them to a dvd Nuzz.
edit: you meant actual storage didn't you, not data storage :o

Thankies, synch! I love how people are so generous on this board when it comes to tech help or music help.
People can be such smartasses or even jackasses and it seems like they are just here to be jerks and to be funny and to argue and it doesn't mean anything, but then when I have questions with actual answers - beyond just asking people for their opinions on relationships - like where can I find this software or how can I buy this etc, then people are so nice and helpful with information and practical advice. It warms the cankles of my heart. :)
I wish I had useful information to provide too.
Oh and yes, I meant he must have a lot of albums to store all the DVDs in.

my boyfriend got a membership with netflix.. the first couple movies are "free trial rentals" or whatever.. the day he got an email that said we received our movies that day, we checked the mail and they weren't there. they weren't there the next day either. they were 4 days late. because of that, he cancelled his membership.
