Actually there are practical reasons. With drought and a failed attempt to tap groundwater running from the top of australia, we have a serious water shortage. Sustainability wise, our water supplies seem to go down about 5-10% per year, at least in melbourne. So as it is we have too many people for the water we have. If we wanted to let more people in, we'd have to reduce our individual water usage, first to stop the decline in water stores, then to allow for more people and sustainability. Maybe if we stopped using some of the worlds purest drinking water for flushing our toilets and started getting rainwater tanks installed in all our homes, we could.

Otherwise, with increased salination, dropping water supplies and overpopulation, australia will be almost entirely desert instead of just 50% or something like it is now.

The kids are brough over by their parents, and if their parents have destroyed their id papers and such, then really you can only blame the parents for taking their kids into that situation. Everyone thinks these detainees are all innocent people, but I personally don't buy into that. the issue is that more often than not, white english speaking immigrants either get to stay or are immediately deported - they are not put in detention centres. it seems that detention centres are reserved for african, asian and middle eastern immigrants

At the time I was thinking these thoughts, I was in Austria and Germany. I wanted to get an Austrian villa on a ski slope in a place like Kitzbuhel. I wanted to be surrounded by beautiful cows with huge bells grazing in the green grass surrounding my place while I cooked pumpkin soup and sipped wine. One of my agents just bought a 340 year old house in the northwestern side of Germany in the wine region and he will be renting it out for 60 euros/night starting in April. Riding a bike from village to village while wine tasting in the area that used to be known as Gaul (sp?) just east of Luxembourg (sp?) sounds quite tantalizing at the moment.
