Which one is better? Ill communication was the first beastie album i bought so i loved that for a long time but listening to check your head it sounds much more solid. I was listening to ill communication the other day and towards the end it gets a bit flat.

My vote gos for check your head.

i think they are both the best beastie boys albums ever, they have it all, rap, funk, hardcore, verry raw (y) they should hook up with mario c again and bring some more of this stuff, or open up the vault and give us some of the remaining recordings of 92-94 era.

For me CYH better, cause it was first real strongest album of Beasties from theirs all albums and then IC became only perfected theme of CYH...and then in 1995 both albums i' took as one whole stuff ....

Defenitely 'Check your head!!" 'Watcha Want is one of the funkiest songs on the planet, just behind 'Superstition' by Stevie Wonder & 'Get up I feel like a sex machine' by James Brown!!! Professor Booty is also at the top of my list! BUGGER IT THERE ALLL AWESOME!!!!!!! (y) :p (y) :p

I think both are pretty similar (like everyone else). I think CYH brought new concepts to the hip hop thing. They mixed a lot of styles on CYH and repeated the formula on IC. If I have to rate them, probably CYH cames first because of the inovation. But I love both of them.

While Ill Comm. and CYH get lumped together often by many fans, I wouldn't consider it fair to call TT5B the 'same' album as LTI.

Musically both albums explore similar themes, but Ill Comm was always an extension of the ideas in CYH. If a new album dropped now, I doubt it would sound dissimilar to TT5B. Because that's the zone they're in. One reason for the gap between IC and HN, and the subsequent wait for TT5B was, I feel, disconnecting the expectations the previous album built.

A fresh start.

So while it could be said that IC and CYH are similar musically, is that such a bad thing?

Yauch is clearly exploring his humanity futher on IC,while they find an identity for the 'live' band configuration. Horovitz will forever be the one who did vocals on their biggest single since Fight for your Right. D established 'The Rapper Mike D'. Ill Communication opens with 'Sure Shot'.The best night of some people's lives opened with 'Sure Shot'. It's a fine album on its own, that benefits no end from defining and bookending the group's most prolific and expressive period.

But Check your Head owns it.

CYH.

Not to take anything from IC.

But CYH, ROCKS....its FUNKY, FRESH, JAZZY, DOPE, & ILL all in one album.

Like no other album. It definaltey stands out like a bass guitar string on a classic-harp.

Pauls Boutique thats a different story. But also a different thread, so i'll leave that one alone.

I use to like Ill Communication way better than Check Your Head, I didn't even really like Check Your Head but I didn't really listen to it and give it a chance. Now I like Check Your Head way better. But I still like them both. MAN Check Your Head is great what the fuck was I thinkin!!!

Im with ya
Stand Together rules!!!!!
But I also love The Update and The Bodhisattva Vow. Yauch does a great job on these 3 particular songs. Thats why I cant choose between CYH and IC.
