(!) why don't they give the job to an actual graphic designer who studied for three years to get their degree?
it's like having a contest to "win the chance to perform brain surgery!! anyone can win!!"

you don't really have to study graphic design in school to be good at it. a few years back i was being paid for my work that i self-taught myself. i'm pretty sure that wouldn't happen with brain surgery.

no, but it's taking what could be paid work away from people who put the time and money into getting a degree.
it's getting harder for graphic designers to get good work, so they end up doing advertising for dog biscuits.
these kind of competions are a way of bands and managers cutting costs, by making designing a competition, rather than the paid work it should be.

it's only one t-shirt for one band. i don't think it's going to cause mass chaos in the graphic design industry. a lot of bands i know of design their own t-shirts anyway.

Oooh, on my My Chemical Romance teeshirt, I want to have a picture of a shit band. I'll have a little turd playing the bass, and another little nugget singing crap lyrics into a microphone. <3

Creativity shouldn't always have to come at a cost. Anyways, people who truly love design do this kind of thing because they enjoy it, not because they want a paycheck. It's also a great way for designers to get practice as well as exposure if their designs are chosen. Why wouldn't bands/managers/record labels want to take advantage of that? And let's not forget that a degree doesn't mean jack shit unless a person actually has talent. Case in point - me.

oh man, so many haters! i still think it's a good idea for a contest, to have some fans design a tour tshirt and stuff, and then the winner also gets all expenses paid trip to nyc... im not a huge mcr fan or anything, but i still think it's a cool idea.
