I have had that problem before. My computer never goes off because it is broken so I have to unplug it when I'm done.

i have an anti-virus program as well, but i've still gotten spyware and trojans, the software has to be updated really frequently for it to be 100% effective

Yeah, I'm starting to think it is a virus. My computer has turned stupid since my pirate version of bitdefender stopped working...i think it was because i used the real exe instead of the cracked exe with the serial, and that voided it. Now i can't get it to work again. Bitdefender was so good too. Plus AVG has been stuck on the 1396th file that its scanning for the last 5 minutes :(

It cannot run
itunes (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/40-mp3-iTunes-downloads-Mac-PC-iPods-15-off-a-iPod_W0QQitemZ5807283592QQcategoryZ86541QQrdZ1QQcm dZViewItem) unfortunatly. Stuff like that you need a dual boot. I use amule for downloads but the only problem with that is it is freeware and you don't pay for any downloads - so you can see how this may cause a problem as it's open to illegal activity ;)
For everything windows does, linux can replace and more. But for some games and programs you may need windows. There is only one reason I've come across I need windows for so far.

I used to run a dual boot of windows 98 and xp, because all my old games wouldnt work on xp. I have partition magic and a few other dual boot related programs somewhere. Maybe i'll get linux running...always been interested.

You won't regret it. It's all freeware so you don't lose anything apart froma bit of space onyour hard drive. But at least you'll gain an non-evil computer that works.
Biggest plus I've found is - no drivers! No need for anti-virus and all that crap. And simple things like
- oh I need to update.
You type 'yum update'.
Oh look it's updated.
Carry on with what you are doing. Non of that defrag stuff where it fucks up all your files and replaces different .mp3's with other mp3's. I lost about 1000 tracks this way

Whats the best version/distributor of linux then?
TonsOfFun
09-13-2005, 09:56 AM
Fedora 3. I actually got it the day before Fedora 4 came out. I know people with Fedora 4 and it's pretty good but I thought I'd let them get it incase there is any bugs in it first, there wasn't I just haven't updated it yet. But go for the latest version.
Make sure you have broadband to download or have someone put it on a DVD for you cus it'd take an age to download with dialup. I could even burn you a DVD with Fedora 3 if you wanted.
Also a good site to search for linux stuff and to compare or ask in forums or read other questions on forums etc like I did is to search on www.google.co.uk/linux
Just change the .co.uk to whatever your extension is. .au? I'm sure it'd work.
