I just read a little tidbit in Blender mag that Bob Dylan appeared in a Kurtis Blow song called "Street Rock", back in the early eighties. Haven't got a chance to look it up yet, but I've got to hear it to believe it. Apparently in Dylan's new book he mentions how Blow turned him on to Ice T, Public Enemy, NWA, and Run DMC. Dylan writes, "these guys weren't standing around bullshitting. They were beating drums, tearing shit up, hurling horses over cliffs." I'm not an enormous Dylan fan, I own my share, but what a compliment to the often-criticized hip-hop genre from such a prominent figure in music history. The article also mentions something about how many people credit Dylan with creating the first rap song with 1965's "Subterranean Homesick Blues"; this I find arguable, but it's still an argument nonetheless. Any thoughts anyone? Has anyone heard this track?
