I actually saw some of this stuff while I was in the department store and thought about picking some up. Then I learned a friend of mine got a free sample with something he bought and tried it out. He said the weirdest part was he suddenly realized that he couldn't move his face and he got a little worried... but then it all just washed right off.
Either way, it sounds fun, man.

There used to be masks that went on clear and liquid and then you peeled them off after they set up. Do they still make those?
I don't think they did anything for my skin, but they were entertaining. I would try to get it off in one piece, without ripping it.
Do they still make rubber cement? The mask had a similar consistency.

Here's one of the things that keeps me coming back to these boards.
I'll read a thread like this and have absolutely no idea of what it means. Like this one--no way did I know what "doing a mask" meant and I figured that it either had something to do with video games or a worse thing.
Then in the middle of exfoliating last night, it completely dawned on me. Mask. And then I cracked up at the thoughts of guys doing masks.
My mask is by Clinique. It goes on as a glowy neon sort of light green. Wipe it on and leave it for 5 minutes. It gets hard and when it does, I like to look in the mirror and make satchmo eyes.

and this is true.....but i admit make-up/skin care is not one of them. and platonic intimicy is not one of them.
but you are confusing cultural differances in acceptable gender-specific actions...with fixed gender roles WITHIN every culture.
Men are supposed to act like men.
women are supposed to act like women.
the "acts" themselves CAN be more culturally dependant, though.
but again....this is US culture i am speaking of (for echewta and AZ)...american men don't use facial masks or take great care in keeping their skin glowing.

let me explain more:
there ARE certain behavioral traits for both men and women that have scientifically proven to be gender specific...regardless of culture.
and every culture, within itself, adopts or creates gender specific rules for accepted gender behavior.
these behaviors are, by and large, rooted in biology...but can vary somewhat in specifics.
even though there can be gender behavior specifics that are differant between culture...that does not mean that those differances can be transposed upon our culture as "proof that it's ok".

Okay I understand what you're saying. However, I think the gender-based standards of behavior from other cultures can be used to prove that the specific behavior in question is not biologically based and is in fact culturally imposed. So you can really only say that a North American man doing a mask is effeminate. Still, cultures also change and with them their ideas about masculine behavior, so the gender roles aren't totally fixed.
Last night I watched American Psycho. That movie got a lot of criticism but I liked it, I love the scene when they are all comparing business cards. Those men were pampered, and they also seemed to hate women and each other. Maybe being a rich powerful jerk makes up for it.

I see what you're saying. But we are all members of the human family. You said masculinity was a biological thing and biology doesn't change along with country borders and the like.
go back and read my posts above.
i don't want to retype it.

There is murder in every culture though. yeah, and?
the correlation is....?
Just because things are "they way they are" doesn't mean that they are necessarily right. well then we are debating 2 differant things.
you are saying it shouldn't be labeled as wrong (though something like that is mostly a matter of opinion)...
while i'm saying, that by our current US cultural standards it IS considered rather odd and effeminite for a man to do.
Technically any man who acts is acting like a man because he is a man and he is acting. that is such utter nonsense. Blank Slate garbage. you couldn't scientifically defend that if your life depended on it.
stop parroting other people's quotes.

the masculine image that society promotes
Now society is starting to promote the metrosexual thing because it means more sales of more products. Capitalism at work.

I made that quote up myself—I’ve never even seen it anywhere else. And how is it nonsense? If I do something, then I am a woman who is acting. If someone else does the exact same thing then they are acting like a woman—me being the woman that they are acting like. It sounds so ridiculous to you because whenever someone says “act like a man” what they really want the man to do is to fulfill society’s stereotype of a man.
no, this all alludes to your apparent belief that masculinity and femininity is purely learned from society....that there is no inborn behaviors...which is scientifically untrue.

I don't think it's purely learned no. There is a biological component as well. There are also "oddballs" who don't fit it but that can be said about anything. Genetics and biology are extremely important components I agree. I hate to get off subject, but did you know that even if an adoptive child's parents are noncriminals, if his or her biological parents were crooks then she or he is extremely likely to be one as well?
genetics make up approx. 50% of behavior variability in offspring....
but the label of "criminal" is a little too vague and general.
the behaviors that MAY have led to criminal activity could be genetically inherited.....
but there are many factors that go in to engaging in criminal behavior or being labeled as one....beyond genetics.
