View Full Version : how'd you end up here?
by this i mean, how did you come across this message board? how'd you settle in beastie-free? personally, i came in through the standard route; i was a fan of the beastie boys, so I joined the message board (over 4 years ago, i really can't remember exactly how long it was, i just know that it was before 9/11...a long goddamn chunk of time, ok), and stayed in beastie general for a while. eventually i got bored of beastie general (i ran out of things to talk about) and floated to beastie-free. i forget exactly how i managed to get accepted. i don't even remember being made fun of. maybe beastie free was nicer then.
anyway i imagine a lot of people are the same as me, but some of you never really got started in beastie general, you just sort of popped up here. how? why? why here? did a friend invite you? random google search result? why'd you decide to stay? by grog, i've got to know, i've been wondering about it off and on for a while now.

I think I arrived a few months after you Bob, I too got bored of discussing a band that at the time looked all but retired.
I recall something about insects in DipDipDive's house or something. And then I got into a e-fight with toy bis and nikoto for thinking racism is funny.
I originally joined in January 1999, but only posted a few times before August 2003 when I finally got a computer myself. And then I went directly to Beastie-Free.

I was a lurker because of the impending CD and tour. Then I posted in Other Music. I started in General Beastie after the tour heated up. There are and were good peeps there.
Cosmo started a thread with a provocative title that was always bumped to the main index. I finally read the thread, and it pissed me off, so I posted a long response.
Later on, when I had a dispute with a few of you on the Beastie side, a bunch of guys told me not to post in Beastie Free. So I thought "fuck that" and I started posting like a madwoman.
I came here in early 98' under the name "Dda1uknow"
I saw the beastie boys 7 times that year.
then i stayed away for a while and came back in 2000 when i bought my 1st computer and got into an argument over something in beastie general and tpk transferred it to beastie free and i was stuck for a while.
PC broke
went away

I don't know how long it's been... just that it's been a really long time. I'm willing to wager closer to a decade than I'd like to admit. It definitely has to be more than five years since I've been in college for four years and I think I started posting here in between my junior and senior year of high-school.
I originally came because, like most people, I am a fan of the Beastie Boys and I was just crusing around the website one day. Then, for some reason or another, I decided I had to know what the name of tune is that they sampled for "12 Piece Chicken Dinner" was. This, of course, lead to me registering on the message board and starting a topic about it. If I remember correctly, my man minton came in with the knowledge and even told me where I could find the original track at. For the record it's (the original track) is called "Shuckin' the Corn" and it's off the soundtrack to Deliverance, which I now proudly own. I actually owe my enjoyment of bluegrass to the Beastie Boys... and that ain't no lie, folks.

It all started with futurama, that episode with the beastie boys in it. I was watching that and thinking, yeah those guys had some alright stuff, and a couple of weeks later I saw LTI at a record shop and bought it for the hell of it. When I bought that, the guy told me there was a new one coming out. Sweet, so I got that. Cool, its ok, nothing special, but I can't convert it to mp3 cause of the copy protection. Came here to complain about the copy protection, then I ended up looking through sure shots and eventually found my way to beastie free. I was never a huge fan of the beasties, I was just pissed about the copy protection and wanted to voice it  I couldn't give a shit about the copy protection now, it only took me a few tries till I found a program that gets around it, and aside from that I never even listen to that album

Ferris (aka fb2k) kept bugging me to join the board, and i already knew ba01 and psyz. so i joined...then didn't post much. until i got really, really bored.
i think i just started posting after i had enough balls to. i was nervous at first. :o
i had been reading the forums for close to a year before that big crash thing. then i signed up after the crash and yeah... had enough balls to start posting.
but my love of the BBoys brought me here. at the time of first reading the board - i was busy playing Quake 1 over the net. \m/ i could pwn all you cunts in that game. cause im 1337.

i saw a preview of the check it out video on mtv one night, and when i went online i came to the site to find out about a new album (because i never hear about these things)
anyway, i used to post on another message board that got tossed around, and i was still waiting for them to officially reopen the new site that it was on so i took a look here.
i came straight to beastie free because i don't really care to just talk about the group all the time. and now i dont go to that other forum because this one is far more active than the other. plus, that one is full of nothing but middle school and high school video game nerds...the population tehre totally changed from what the old site was

merp, it was the height of my beastie boy fandom and I went into beastie general to check out what people had to say and ended up being a total ass and getting into fights and saying that people were bandwagon fans, and then me and Jane* got into a huge fight and then we were friends.
uhh, I suppose the fighting was moved to beastie general or something. it was around '99 or '00. shit fuck that's a long time.
I remember thinking I'd make 300 posts, then leave for good. I used to be puhda33

I came here in the summer of 99 when the video 'alive' was released under the name (beastieboys4ever), sarky may remember that name cause she used to instant message malest me all the time, i also remember talking to scarysquirrel when he was making the transition from HS to college cause i was doing the same thing.
At the time the 'Alive' video was so diffrent than any other rap video they played, very unique. I think MTV even used an Alive instrumental playing in the background when goin to commercial with some guy floating or some shit.(the last drum sequences).
I dont post like a madman, but i do post here and in beastie general time to time. I like to post here when im in the mood either for maturity or sarcasm.
p.s.= I hate you all :p

In 2000 I had just returned to the UK from South Africa and had nothing to do one day. I went online and was aimlessly browsing, then I wondered if the Beastie had any news about a new album....checked out the site and found the message board. I was welcomed like an old friend (no newbie bashing back then) and i've been here ever since.

I really grew up with their music, so I decided to register here. I am only active on the Interpol messageboared but the beatie Boys deserve it too....

I was searching for a bestiality site and came across this and just decided to stay.
searching for something on yahoo (i think i was in grade 8, and it was probably boobies). ended up in the sure shot place looking at "jokes and freaky stuff". i had liked the beastie boys (were, and still are my favorite group), so i looked around the site, and stuff. posted a little, then the "big crash" happened. found out a month later, registered again. posted here occasonally since then. got hurt at work, so now i can't skate/work for a while, so i post here again.
Edit: actually, it could have been the genius thread i found. i'm not sure.

I started coming to this site in the pre hello nasty days when shit was all white and they were talking about recording in submarines.
I only used to post for the hell of it in beastie general and other music but since i've been running long .sql queries lately...i've been dropping shit in here to fill the gap.

My son signed me up on this site after I expressed interest in the music. That interest was sparked after I read the lyrics to a Beastie song and was intrigued that those lyrics didn't jibe at all with what I thought most rap music was about. :o

i think she runs this board, here, but i'll admit, i haven't been to it in ages (well over a year) http://www.sardonicsounds.com/forums/index.php?act=idx
i don't know for sure what her name is. i think it's baby london, but that could have changed. anyway, last i heard, she was doing pretty well. something about her own independent record label or something surprisingly big like that. good for her, she deserves it. she had a rough life.

I feel in love with minton and was following him around on the internet. Then I saw a picture of Jane* and descided to stay.
this was probably the first reasonably big forum i've ever posted on so it's kind of nostalgic for me. the FIRST forum i've ever posted on was some silly little thing called superpope, i think i landed there after a random google search for dragon ball z stuff or something (i was young, lay off), but there were only like 6 people who ever posted there. the guy who ran it was a hardcore christian, but it rarely showed, he was nice. everyone else was like 13 years old, like me, ha. then one day we got randomly invaded by this other message board, called torture.net, which i don't believe exists anymore (it probably got shut down by the government, there were some sick bastards on there). they'd pop up and post horse porn and pictures of VD, and all this other stuff. that was my first internet war :o

yep. i think i grew up a lot in those days. it exposed me at a young age to a segment of the population i probably otherwise wouldn't have believed existed. but now i've seen them, i've talked to them (well, typed), i even made peace with them, and few things that i find on the internet will ever surprise me. disgust me, maybe, but not surprise me.
these just aren't like the old days.
