Was just wondering if any of you have any good sign ideas for the 24th (echewta I am looking in your general direction)?

We have a few already, but not enough to go around.

Just as an aside....whatever happened to the "Impeach Bush" movement?

Did anything actually move forward? Does anybody know?

Also, do you, D_Raay, or anyone else have any facts or figures as to how the antiwar movement is holding up? I know Bush's approval ratings have dropped on Iraq, but other than that, are you all aware of any legislative or congressional actions that are moving forward that can actually impact the deployment of soldiers overseas? Or, are you relying on protests and marches mostly?

I promise I am not asking these questions lightly : I am truly curious.

Alomost 1 million have signed this org's one petition alone. There are quite a few others.

The Impeachment crowd has been largely ignored despite having several petitions with millions of signatures. The fact is we need a Republican on board to really start anything. Pat Buchanan of all people urged a republican to do so last year.

Hmm, I'll think about some stuff. Nothing comes to mind at the moment.

I still get upset about Chalibi in Iraq and it tends to cloud my mind.

Pat Buchanan's participation doesn't surprise me. He's completely anti-interventionist and considers those that are pro-active foreign policy to be "neo-cons" only. I just read an interesting interview with him by, and please don't snicker TOO loudly, Rush Limbaugh. The two of them DO NOT agree on much, from Pat's stance that we should "protect" American manufacturing jobs with tariffs, etc., to Pat's reverence for Nixon's willingness to pull out of Vietnam as part of a larger non-participation in world events, to Pat's insistence on non-particiaption in the UN.

Interestingly, I've heard Pat's views expressed as so far to the Right that he begins to meet those who are on the extreme Left. He did, after all, have Lenora Fulani as his VP candidate when he ran for the Reform Party in 2000!

If you don't know who Fulani is, here's some interesting links :

Interesting reading if nothing else.

Ok, now back to my queries. If the petition is signed by one million people, who is it being presented to in order to make something happen? I truly don't know how these things actually have any impact on what is going on other than to make people feel good that they signed a petition.

At least in states, when you sign a petition, you get to vote on it during the next election cycle, which is rapidly approaching, then it gets made into law. Does the pro-impeachment crowd have a plan to IMPLEMENT what it wants to have occur?

Again, I am truly asking the question because I go back and read history and it seems like these "movements" are never successful unless those in power are made to enact legislation or conduct hearings, or SOMETHING, that advances the agenda.

Well they are usually sent to the Judiciary Commitee, or they are sent to the corresponding representative depending on where you live. Some are sent to all relevant sources all at once. Again, it is just a matter of whether they are considered seriously by whomever receives them.

"Hey hey, ho ho, this penis party's got to go"
"The only Bush I trust is my own"

oh wait. that's for the feminist's march.

Hmm.

I think a serious poster is what I'd do. A military picture of my friend Dan, saying "I support my friend, please bring him home safely and soon."

I just know there's gonna be some Bush-fanatics there, so I'd like something they can't shoot down like a bunch of assholes. Seriously, who's gonna yell at the girl with the depressing "my friend's a soldier, don't let him die" sign?
