Mixed drinks (scotch/bourbon colas, smirnoff ice, ruskis etc) are for some reason pretty good out of the can, but beer is always putrid from a can. This is the case for both VB and carlton draught. I nearly cried when cascade draught in cans came out in mainland Australia :( How could you barstardise such a good beer??

People do drink it, I work in a bottleshop (or liquor store for Americans) so I know. Also, its often way cheaper than buying a bottle of spirits and a bottle of soft drink and making it yourself. Even though I personally like doing that cos i can make it as strong or as weak as a feel like. But honestly, that mixed stuff out of a can tastes the same as the mixed stuff out of a bottle.

Hey now, I was the 5th post in this thread, I didn't start it.

Rock, it is all well and good to regularly drink quality single malt 12+ year old scotch whiskey, or baker's or basil hayden bourbon, or even some quality coignac for the wealthy. But poor uni bums like me only get to experience that sort of thing when they are given it as a birthday present, or offered some by their dad in a rare moment of generosity :p

At all other times its either beer, cougar bourbon and cola (beam is a ripoff) or cheap mixed drinks if theres none of the above two.

Smirnoff Black Ice is alright. Red ice is shite.

Vodka's just a neutral spirit. Its generally rather tasteless, just burns and has a slightly sunscreeny taste...seriously similar to Banana boat brand in particular. Tequila on the other hand is good (y) We dont get any decent stuff in Australia though. In mexico, they laugh at what we consider good tequila. You say "Whats the best tequila you have here? Cuervo?" then they'll probably look at you the same way as if somebody asked us if the best beer we had was fosters.

I'm not wealthy. I just budget my money right. I know where to put alcohol on the list of things to spend my hard earned money on. Bills #1 Alcohol #2 Food #3. That way I don't have to drink shitty beer or rot gut liquor.

You dont have to be a uni person to go to uni nights. Its just that most of the people there will be uni aged. Well that is unless its a uni only night, where you have to show your uni id or your student society key ring. Those nights, where its 12 bucks for unlimited drinks... good times galore (y)
