Losing My Religion takes me right back to when the Penguins won back-to-back Stanley Cups in the early 90s. I had friends over for the first play-off game and I made brownies. Then I did the same thing for the next game.

Somewhere along the way, the Pens lost a game and it coincided with a night where I didn't make brownies and in the eyes of my friends, the lack of brownies were to blame for the loss of that game. There's probably an REM song that perfectly illustrates the loss and depression I felt right then/there.

For the rest of that playoff series and for the ones in the ensuing year, I made an awful lot of brownies. It didn't matter what I put into them--nuts, marshmallow, peanut butter. Just having brownies of any kind seemed to lock them into the win. In a sense, Losing My Religion also reminds me of brownies.
