The people behind me were all huffy like I was taking too long. Its not my fault that the machine was going crazy because I only had a scoop of granola in a bag.
I'm waiting for a Twilight Zone moment where the checker machine comes to my door and says "Echewta" "Echewta" and then I'll jump out my window.
Thank goodness i'm on the first floor.
It's funny that it's the guys complaining... I have no trouble anywhere, but I see men struggling constantly... It's not THAT difficult, boys!

I like it when it announces to everyone within four rows exactly what I'm buying and I especially like it when I buy something that makes other people look up and over their checkout aisle to see who's buying that thing.

I'm quite skilled at the auto-checker.
I don't like using it, kinda freaks me out in a "robots taking over the world" kinda way, but I just don't like buying my hemmrhoid, yeast infection, and foot fungus cream in front of the checker.
Oh, and the various fruits and vegetables I buy for personal use.
Oh, and the lube.
It's funny that it's the guys complaining... I have no trouble anywhere, but I see men struggling constantly... It's not THAT difficult, boys!
No complaints from me. I was a bit nervous using it the first time 2 weeks ago and had no problems. And I used it again this weekend and was in and out like *SNAP* that.
Side note...why does this Black Berry Blow Pop rip off taste like banana now?

I never use those things. The thought of giving more than a quarter to a machine just doesn't seem right. The cheap bastard stores only do that so not to hire cashiers these days. I guess they will soon have a machine for store returns as well - you insert the returned item into the machine which inspects it and shoots it out back atcha and says - DENIED ! We'll fuck that.

Wow -- I like the automatic checkout lanes quite a bit, unless there are others in line to use 'em. Then it's a toss up to guess whether those folks will move smoothly through the process or get hung up.
So: if no one (or only one person)'s in line, I go auto. (y)

My brother's gonna mix a song to what the grocery store computer says.
"Please move your golden delicious apples...apples, apples, app-app-apples! Yeah, girl, move them apples!"
That's just because he's an idiot, though.
I'm fine with automatic checkout, but that's because I had experience for about 3 years as a scanner for retail. You scan, then stick in the bag. Repeat. However, one hilarious thing I saw was a foreign lady at the Wal-mart scan things and give it to her 4-year old daughter to put in the bag. She'd take it and then put it back on the conveyor belt. I would have said something, but it was one of those deals where you were paying attention, but not really processing what was happening until they were already gone. Then it's like "Wait a minute!" And by then, it's just funny.

i'm completely inept with them. i remember once trying to buy some pvc pipe connectors at home depot with that and trying to scan one thing 14 times because i had 14 of the same thing...i think i left crying.

Listen. I'm not retarded. I'm not scared of technology. Just dictionaries. The machine was going crazy. I put the bag of granola in after weighing it and adding it to the list. The machine told me that I put something extra in. I didn't. I took out the granola, which is the only thing I put in, and then it said I need to put the item back in. Even the automatic checker babysitter was rolling his eyes at the machine. Like in loops. His eyes went back to see his brain and came back kind glazed to look at the machine which was lighting up like I got BAR BAR BAR. I'm dorky enough to read 2600 Magazine, I don't think something like this is my fault.

The grocery store down the street has a scale that prints out a barcode for your produce when you put in the code that is listed right next to the fruit/vegetable you just bagged up. Makes things easier. Wegman's is lovely.

I'm actually not picky and will eat anywhere - especially La Bamba where you can get burritos the size of your head.
I was working at the bookstore Sunday when a lady came up to the information desk and asked if there were any nice places to eat around there. Yeah, it's the information desk so people come up with any old question, even though it's a book store. I didn't realize she had meant to emphasize the word 'nice' so I just decided to list all the restaurants in the neighborhood and for some reason I started at one end and the first thing I said was "well down memorial there's Applebees...." and she cut me off with "No I mean a NICE place." Bitch. I just sighed, man I was tired. I said I didn't know. She was incredulous. "There are NO nice places to eat around here?" I just shrugged and said "I don't know" and she walked off in a huff. I should have pretended I didn't know of any place nicer. "Oh no Applebees is really nice they have this spinach dip with tortilla chips! I'm just a bookstore employee, I can't afford any place nicer."
