It's a unique, warm sort of feeling to watch your son falls asleep at the drop of a hat when he's home from university because he's throwing himself so deeply into his studies of Texas Holdem.
Every ma wants to hear her son say, I'm the Holdem Champ on my [dorm] floor. I won this! *holds up box of neon glow-in-the-dark condoms*
The only thing I could think to say to discourage that was, "George Bush is from Texas."
Apparently that isn't having the desired effect because he's got another game set for this Friday night and it's an all-nighter. I pray that he isn't smoking cigars and that he never brings home something like this (http://a1259.g.akamai.net/f/1259/5586/5d/images.art.com/images/-/Dogs-Playing-Poker--C10027437.jpeg). Because the poker I can just about take, but dog art is right out.

i prefer to play omaha holdem myself, but i only know one other guy in my circle of poker buddies that actually likes to play it either...
as far as game length, the group i play with, we generally pay $5 to play and we usually give 2nd place their money back, and winner takes the rest. those games usually take around 3 hours, no matter how many people we have. maybe a little longer if we have a full table.
im sure you could go for hours on end if your playing straight cash games though. i don't do that for fear of losing too much in one night...

Games can go on forever. A little hint don't think about the money while playng it only distracts you from playing.

Poker games with friends usually take about 4-5 hours. I'm going to Vegas this weekend to play some real tables. Those games can be long. Depending on what you play and how well your doing.

This whole poker fad has gone berserk, esp. the Texas Holdem crap. I used to play poker with my buddies, and I took their money too, but we kept the games fast paced so they wouldn't drag out so damn long. Who the hell wants to sit around for 6 hours staring at little cards and your buddy's faces? Not me.

Well the average game i play in goes for about 6 hours, and its only 5 bucks in so its not like we're worried about the money or anything. Its just when you have 8 people it can be a pain in the ass. I think we need to reduce our numbers. However last night i played and it was only 4 people and yet the game went from 9pm-4am with an hour break in the middle, so 6 hours. I came second, but screw that 2nd breaks even rule, winner takes all!! I did win the 10 hour game the other day though.
