OK, so I ordered a package from amazon, and a slip arrived through the door this morning informing me that I wasn't around when they delivered it. Fair is fair. Here's what infuriates me. We have a secluded garden, and it's a bright sunny day, but Mrs. Postlady didn't leave it back there. My neighbours are in all day, but she didn't knock and leave it with them.

No, what she did was leave her name and a number under the bit that says "you must phone us within 48 hours to rearrange delivery". Fine and dandy, except for one thing. She didn't put the fucking area code, so how am I supposed to know what area code to dial before I call? It's not as if it's obvious, because I live right on the county border, and it could be one of three different ones.

Why they insist on letting morons into the postal industry is beyond me

if i order skateboard stuff royal mail usually deliver it, and if im not in they leave a note saying its at the depot, cause there is one 5 minutes down the road from me. also, i once entered a competition to win a ps2 signed by lita from wrestling (het it was a long time ago) and some wrestling games and stuff and i didnt know id won, but they actually just dropped the playstation over the gate next to my front door where anyone could've gone thourgh the gate and picked it up.

what service is delivering your things?

Tis Parcelnet.

It's frustrating because I live in an awkward area where I have one borough's post code and another borough's phone number, so things are never straight forward.

I'm just annoyed because I know they'd never actually tried to leave it next door or it would be there, because the couple who live there are retired and sit in all day watching Bargain Hunt.

take the yellow pages or so and check if the local postal office has a similar number..
is it a reasonable idea?

I ordered some stuff from Amazon recently - i got the nice email saying said stuff had been dispatched.

6 days later still nothing. Then a (annoying) neighbour knocks on my door and grunts "This came for you. We've had it for days and we were gonna open it" (gee, thanks)

Did i get a card from Royal Mail saying that they had left the package with a neighbour. Did i buggery. Obviously you have to be psychic these days.

you'd be more annoyed if she left it in your garden and some dog pissed on it

Here the post office ain't allowed to leave post to anybody else but the recipient, so your parcels would never end up at your neighbours. I was a bit surprised once when I was in Ireland the mailman wanted to leave me the Valentine card meant to the girl next door if I could give it to her later as she wasn't at home. I just stood there with mouth wide open! As I was just a visitor and leaving that same day I was not able to do that so the girl got her card day late. Here you'd just get a note that you can collect your post from the post office.

I got a call from sony this morning saying my laptop had been delivered to the courier company and that I'd get a call to discuss possible delivery. I told the sony guy that I hadn't received a call when they picked it up, they just showed up. The sony person said that was weird or something.

Few hours later... doorbell... my laptop...

I tell the delivery guy: sony said you'd call to make an appointment.

Delivery guy's response: Sony says lots of things...

When I've had problems with Amazon it was when UPS did the delivery. I live in a nice neighborhood and there's a front stoop and a covered back porch, but for some reason, the UPS guy wouldn't leave Amazon packages without making face-to-face contact with me (no one else--just me).

He leaves other packages on the stoop or back porch; just nothing from Amazon.

I can't quite remember everything that I had to do with Amazon to get them to release my book to UPS and then to have UPS deliver it, but it involved FAXing UPS and Amazon a letter authorizing permission and releasing them from any liability. (!)

You would have thought that I was having them deliver conflict diamonds, but if I recall, the first time this happened, they were delivering a used copy of the Bhagavad Gita.

Anyway, I think it's (was?) more a problem with the arrangement Amazon has with particular delivery agents. When I have to go through Amazon for anything, I have it sent to my friend's work address because there's always someone there and they accept personal deliveries without hesitation.
