If you're a fan of dEUS, you'll find yourself feeling pretty disappointed by this effort. It's a good, solid album, but it doesn't have that unique dEUS feel to it.
It seems as if Tom Barman realised that 5 years without a release is far too long and pieced together an album of half-arsed work. Though, with dEUS, half-arsed is a lot better than some of the material produced this year.
There are some corkers on here, but the album is mostly filler to pillow the outstanding tracks.
2005 has been a fantastic year for music, with releases from Spoon, Sleater-Kinney, The New Pornographers, Kanye West, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, Clor and LCD Soundsystem being among the definite high-points, it's just a shame dEUS haven't come out with an album to match the greatness of their previous 3 albums. 'Nothing Really Ends' - a track that featured on their greatest hits album (5 years ago) is on this album! A kop-out from such a talented and underrated band.
2.5/5.
