so the new guy at work is african. not black but african. you know, like he just got here from africa and has an accent. anyways, i refer to him as the new african dude. this seems to piss of all the preppy white people that work there. they seem to think it's wrong to call an african an african and not black. so i told them i felt the the term black and african were different. blacks are africans that have been over here(the US) for the past few hundred years and africans are africans that are from africa(duh) or fresh from africa. so me and a buch of my co-workers are upstairs in the break room and they're like scolding me for thinking that and calling me ignorant. and as this is going on, the one black guy that works there comes upstairs. and he's all like "what the fuck" becuase everyone is like pointing fingers at me and shit. he asks me what we're all talking about. and i said "the new black guy." as i said this all the white kids were shocked that i said "the new black guy". the also seemed to think that i was improper to call someone "that black guy" in front of a black person. he had no idea who i was talking about. so i pointed out the windows, that looks over the store, at the guy. then the black guy that came upstairs goes, "what? he aint black. nah, that nigga is african".

i just thought that was funny. carry on.

i figured black just referred to skin color, regardless of where you're from. there's african-americans and then there's africans. and i wouldn't say it's racist to call him the african guy. it's more racist to call him the new black guy (if that's racist at all). if he was from germany, you KNOW everyone would be calling him the german guy. unless his name was gunther, then they'd call him gunther because that name's hilarious

I went to high school with a pair of twins named Rod and Steve Gunther. They had matching mullets.

My mother-in-law tries to be all pc when referring to black people and calls them negroes.
