remember back in middle school, when you were the coolest because you got some new cd that was just out, or you had more than a dozen discs in your collection?

i laugh at the fact now that unless you have at least 1,000 songs, usually 2k+, its like you arent even keeping up or something.

i have about 300 cd's in my collection right now, and i bet that none of my friends have even half of that, especially if you don't consider burt/ripped copies of stuff they didnt even buy. it kind of weirds me out becuase i still have so many albums i want to get, and nobody really gets it

i have about 1300 tracks in my collection. it's not very much compared what others have. and a good 99 percent of it is all purchased.

thats what i mean...

i have abour 1200 tracks of downloaded music on my computer, about 25% of it i eventually bought the cd that that song(s) were on by said band.

i think the only people who have less tunes on their computer that i know at school are the kids who don't download much of anything, or dont really like enough music...

I have very specific music taste. I pretty much listen to the same 20 CDs over and over.

Most of the new music I hear, I don't like.

I have a lot. At least 300, probably more. Its definitely going to be the hardest thing to move this weekend.

Seriously? 2000+? And you moved it more than once a year? Your poor wife. And I thought dating a drummer was bad. I had to help him haul all all of his drum stuff every time we had a show. And lemme tell ya, that shit is heavy.

How'd she get away without helping you?

At least by the time I started playing in a band with Mike he had given up his double bass drum for a double pedal. Now if there was only something I could have done about the gratuitous amount of hardware...

mickill

Uh, well, she's not allowed to help with the CDs. I need to sort them alphabetically, in their appropriate boxes. She'd just throw them in garbage bags if she could have her way.

i used to have mine in folders, but it was too hard to keep up with adding new ones and keeping them in some sort of order, so i never could find what i wanted.

anytime i wanted to put something new on, i had to just sort through everything and go with whatever hit me, at least now i can think about it and grab whatever i want

I can't believe that I've been thinking about doing this to all but my most beloved CDs. I'm thinking about moving this year. I think the CDs need to suck it up and take one for the team if I'm going to keep all my vinyl.

mickill

Okay, vinyl obviously takes precedence over CDs, but come on, this is their homes we're talkin about. Throw away some books or something if you need space. Let them take one for the team.

I've been thinking about this a lot. My last move was 4-5 years ago and I didn't have to move stereo components or vinyl because it was in storage at my mom's and I didn't move the vinyl into my house until about a year ago. Last move, it was the books and CDs that crippled me. This time, I might have to move across country. And this time vinyl is job 1.

I am willing to throw away my sofa, chairs, dining room set, hutch, most of my dishes and almost all my pans, and all but one lamp. Even my bed.

I need to keep the piano and the bookcase my grandpa made. I'm keeping my stereo components and laptop. I have been making hard choices with my books and I hope to get their numbers down. I agree that my most beloved CDs should get to keep their jewel cases with notes and stuff, but do I really need to keep the jewel case for say Fleetwood Mac CDs?

Just thinking about moving makes me realize that I've spent a lot of money on shit I don't care about. I think I used my springform cake pan once! I just need to live in a library with a bed and stereo.

It's difficult enough caring for and properly storing vinyl. Good luck moving it across country. Personally, I don't know if I'd trust movers/baggage handlers/couriers with any of my more favorite records. And what if you lose a crate or two? I wouldn't risk certain things, personally. But then, I'm obviously slightly manic.

I really should do a count sometime, but I'm positive I have 1000+ CDs, and there's no sign of decline either.

Once you're at the store and you go nuts on releases, all of a sudden you find out you need even MORE albums, and so on. It never stops. :( :)

My sentiments exactly. When I finally move, I will have to ditch nearly everything that I currently own. I'm thinking the best way to move the stuff I can't part with will be to mail it to myself. Other than that, I will have to bribe some friends to take the flight with me and bring almost none of their own luggage so they can bring my crap. Also, I'm pretty pissed about that whole not able to use any of my American electronics in Europe or play my DVDs and crap. (n)

By the way, I just bought a buttload of CDs for a buck each. It was stuff that I could no longer live without anymore though; Dionne, Aretha, Otis. So yeah, my life is just a little more complete now.

Those large tupperware containers are a mans best friend. Stock that up in teh back of the moving truck and let it go. I would etiher U-Haul it yourself or use one of the companies where you load yourstuff up and then put up a nice wall to hold it all in.

I prefer the new cover they are using. Visually more pleasing and intriguing.

Same.

Why do so many of you people move across country? And overseas? Damn. I don't think I've ever moved further than a half hour away at a time. My last move was from 5 blocks away.

I have that on vinyl.

A few weeks ago some friends were over and they were worried about my record collection tipping over. It does look rather dangerous, I definitively need sturdier shelves for my vinyl, and more of those cd-units I have, and screw them on the wall before accidents happen. I've got two IKEA Robin (http://www.ikea.com/PIAimages/25879_PE110711_S3.jpg) drawers for 7"s and they're perfect!
It's been quite tiresome when I've moved, I even took 25% of my vinyl collection (and all cd's, I only had a couple of hundred then) with me when I went to study far, far away for a couple of years, and I'm glad I did, I got to be the DJ at the school pub every now and then.

Usually it's for the love or the money.

I've moved 35 times in my life, in the early days it was because of dad's work, but the most times when I moved to Stockholm it took at least a dozen moves before I got my own place.

That's what the guy who put it up claims.
I haven't checked it all yet, it sounded so awful (and David Letterman still has hair  ) He'd done it form a VHS he'd had for ages (Unknown Gen VHS-->imovie + idvd-->DVDR-1). There's some good stuff, from 120-minutes, Dennis Miller show etc, it would be great if it was better quality :(
Actually it doesn't have anything to do with my DVD player as I haven't burned it... :o

I find that nowadays I only purchase albums that are from indie bands with small followings or australian acts that aren't available online. I know its not right, but I figure that I've spent enough on cds already and that only the best cds deserve to be bought, considering cd prices have not gone down in the last 10 years even though the cost of a blank cd has gone from $10+ down to about 30 cents for a DVD. And I've already paid for enough cds and go to enough concerts to repay my piracy. Probably about 150-200 CD's real, and about 9500 mp3's (including real and downloaded) on my computer.

:p I have no Volvo! But if I move, I will move the vinyl personally. And I won't sleep on the drive.

I have a friend who stayed in a hotel overnight and someone took her moving van while they were sleeping. They hit garage sales to find clothes for her and the kids.
