All this boo shit is making me ill.

Also....are they releasing this nation wide anytime soon? I remember when it came out a few weeks ago it was at select theatres, and I haven't seen it anywhere in the Washington DC area.

Oh my yes, especially the way it's semi-casually inserted at the end of the sentence after a comma. My stomach turns upside down after reading it.

edit: Oh, and ehm, never heard of that movie, sorry :o

I saw it on Friday. Whilst it was an entertaining film, it was completely far-fetched.

This was to make the film more appealing to audiences who aren't that clued up on the history of football violence. Now, I'm not that clued up, but I have enough knowledge of the history to have an opinion on it.

Firstly, there is NO WAY on earth that the lad would turn his back on the GSE and snitch for Millwall. That would be unthinkable. If that had happened, I'm sure he would have been killed. The Millwall fans would have beaten the shit out of him anyway in the cafe if he was known within the group.

Secondly, what was up with the lead guy's accent (not Elijah Wood)? It was the worst attempt at the cockney lingo I've ever heard. At the time, I assumed he was American, but it turns up he's from Newcastle Upon Tyne!

That aside, it was enjoyable, and much better than Football Factory, but not a patch on The Firm, starring Gary Oldman.

Doesn't say much either that I was actually looking at it.

here's a funny story. I went to see a special screening of that movie downtown at the museum of contemporary art and I rode my bike there wearing jeans and flip flops. Turns out it was actually a benefit to support Cease Fire, an anti-violence program in the city that my friend does research for (he invited us). It was catered by Wolfgang Puck and everyone was dressed up. I'm talking evening gowns. oops, my friend forgot to mention that it might be formal.

Anyway, the movie was incredibly violent and I thought it was super tacky to show it at an anti-violence event. There was an awkward discussion period in which one of the producers, Gigi Pritzker (of the great Chicago Pritzkers), eagerly asked "does anyone know someone who's been murdered?"; and an awkward auction afterward where two of Elijah's jackets (one w/ "blood", one w/out) were auctioned off for $750.

After all that we got to eat some fancy snacks and drink champagne that was brought around by servers on silver platters. We got our picture taken with our friend and it ended up on a slide show in one of his meetings last week, heh. we left soon after and got a goody bag with a mug and a sticker and a green street hooligans t-shirt and poster.

ahem, anyway, I thought the movie was alright. It was nice looking, but the british stuff just seemed a little thin. The cockney thing seemed a little forced and that blonde guy seemed a little too beautiful to be a rough neck. I was entertained, but it came off pretty fake. Also I hate Claire Forlani. Like, why would she drive to that fight and then get out of the car? come on now, that is ridiculous. I cried though.

I think the movie can be interpreted in many ways. i.e. the violence. People can walk away thinking it glorified it, or keep in mind the horrors that came from it (SPOILER) ... the 12 year old dying, etc.

I heard it's like an average Saturday in some parts of London. In Europe it was just called Green Street I think.

Funny because I saw a poster for this leaving the stadium and it just said "hooligans".
