I was watching TV last night on a show about trivial facts & stuff about popular shows from the past. It included, something very interesting about Sesame Street characters Ernie & Bert. It turns out that the character names Ernie & Bert were named after Ernie the taxi driver and Bert the cop from Frank Capra's "It's A Wonderful Life."
One of my all time favorite characters is "SUPER-GROVER !!!" when Grover wore the helmet and cape. I still catch myself watching Sesame Street even now when I can catch it on. :D

I had that same kinda comlex about Kermit and it caused me to confuse the two shows together too. Being a kid was confusing enough from having to go to school alone.

I watched an episode last week. When did Elmo become the focus? He was just a third tier character when I last saw it. Elmo's World is really funny. Mainly because that day that segment was about balls. And at the end he sang The Ball Song, which was just the words "balls" sung over and over again to the tune of Jingle Bells. :D

When I was kid in the 70s, Elmo didn't even exist. He debuted as a minor character in 1979...but he made it to the big time when the Tickle Me Elmo doll came out in 1996.

I've only recently gotten back in to Sesame Street with my kids...but I thought the tickle me elmo thing is when Elmo got really popular...maybe he was really popular then the tickle me toy took it to a whole other level.
I really like the drunk Mr. Noodle...that guy always looks wasted. And there are two of them. Are they brothers? They're both drunk.

Grover is still around...but he's not as prominent. I remember when I first saw Elmo...I thought they just changed Grover from blue to red.

recently i've seen some new muppet footage on tv. and some of the muppets had differnt voices. it was very sad to me. sound like bad immitations of the original muppets.

I started watching Sesame Street in the mid 70's and back then they used to have this little skit where a guy with a paint can would paint the number or the letter of the day on a park bench or a stool but he would paint it on backwards. Eventually someone would come by and sit on the number or letter and then get up and walk away with it on his/her ass.
For some reason that repetitive skit always cracked me up.
btw people-C is for 'cookie'. That's good enough for me.

Thanks for the link. So did he die of complications of HIV...or was it like suicide or something? That article was pretty vague on his death.

Hmm, good question. I thought it was complications until you said that. I'll check it out.

Try having that fucking song on a Sesame Street DVD that you daughter relentlessly insists on watching five times a day every fucking day.
Turd, I've been wandering around singing that song for that last four years, my man. Trust me when I say I feel your pain.

YAY! I'm so glad someone else remembers it. The Swedish chef's ceral and the pinball song are two things that I loved but all of my friends had no clue about either one and I started to think I had just made it up. But other people remember them too, so I'm quite happy now.
