View Full Version : Favor for Adrock...

I got to interview the guys for their upcoming Solid Gold Hits CD and Adrock mentioned that he's been looking on the internet for the infamous KISS interview on the Tom Snyder show from 1979. It's supposed to be one of those train-wreck TV moments where Ace was totally drunk and Paul & Gene were totally pissed off. Anyway, thought I might put it out there in the hopes of someone having it or being able to find it...and being a super cool friend and making it available for Adrock and all to see.

BTW - they had me rolling in the interview, this was the best experience to be able to interview them! I feel really lucky!

Anyway, I know where you can download video version of the interview. But I won't bother to download it myself.

But I have the audio version.

I didn't really know about it until he mentioned it. So it would be for him. But after searching for a few minutes, I found the mp3 files and they're really funny. So, it's up to you to share the info or not...but it would ultimately get to him.

peace out!

on the subject of rare footage,I'm still looking for the Beastie Boys interview on Network 7,a Channel 4 TV show in the UK from 1987 when the boys gave the interviewer a really hard time, a classic! (y)

Here's a little more about the interview.

It was for Fuse (music video channel in the USA). We talked about the new CD. It was actually a full day of press that they did. I saw John Norris from MTV News there , so look for that, as well as VH-1 (they're doing a Yo! MTV Raps special).

Anyway, I spent about 45 minutes or so talking to them and it totally freaked me out. They're super cool, personable and really funny! It was a great experience and I feel so lucky! Just like everyone here, I'm such a huge fan of theirs and I got to ask them a bunch of stuff from a fan point of view and we spent a lot of time going track by track off the new CD. I have to screen the footage to figure out what were going to do with it...several possibilities here. But at the least an album special to air around the release of the new CD.

One bit of interesting info that I sort of got from them is about a new album. They said it's done and waiting to go...but you never can tell if they're joking or not. Mike D said that he's got a track about Hornblower that is really explicit and it will hit the streets...somehow!

Oh, any suggestions where to download the Tom Snyder / KISS interview?

It puzzles me that the Beastie Boys do interviews with media that will probably only give them one minute of radio or television airtime or one paragraph in print; however, they don't do a frickin' single thing at Beastieboys.com, where their fans come for info and where they could go ape-shit doing whatever they want.

Did y'all see what Billboard wrote? Billboard, which normally does a really good job reporting on new releases, was part of the same press event as the dude posting here, and its article was a rehash of the press release with a single quote by Mike. Here it is:

Asked last year if "To the 5 Boroughs" might be the Beasties' final album, Mike D told Billboard, "You know, to be honest, we really never know. One of the things we've talked about is actually not waiting so long until we record the next record, because we did a lot more songs for ["Boroughs" ] than we wound up using. Of course, give it a year. We'd like to get the next record out in less time than we've ever had between records."

Hey - I'm just trying to share a fun experience...why the hate? Why are you sure that we'll probably give them 1 minute of air time? We've done more than that in the past at Fuse and I'm sure that this will turn into something cool too!

I know that I can't compete with your 1604 posts but I'm a fan too!

Hey she ain't dissing you!
She's just like the rest of us on the board; we wish we'd hear about the new stuff from their website first, not some tiny interview or rumour on some mag.
And it was Miramanee who came with the scoop first (cause she's on the know :D )

It's a cool thing that you could interview them! I think it's better when a fan who knows about stuff gets to do an interview, not some bimbo who's hardly read the pressrelease.

do you really think the beasties are gonna put out an album and say 'oh by the way, this is our last one'

no one does that...

and like i said...if they are gonna put another cd out, it should be within a year or two....if its longer then that....it's gonna be a tough sell if they're pushin 50....

It's Capitol who set up these interviews right? I.e. to promote the Beasties, but if they say everything that's going down on the site then there's really not much point in the whole promo process. TV and magazines will get news out to millions of people, stuff on the site will just go to us fans.

I'm not sure where I'm going with this...don't get me wrong, I'd love to hear about things here first, and we of all people should. But it's the way it works for a bunch of bands. I'd like to think Yauch would love to come on here and shout about what's happening.

But something M said was that alot of the stuff is simply rehashed news, so stuff like that isn't to big a deal to me. Also, this may be missing the point or the principles you're all making (and fairly I add), but whenever something new or exclusive is spread somewhere else it's always here in a flash, so i don't see it as too much of a brouhaha!

Anyways that's it that'sall I was merely feeling thoughtful, although a bunch of those points aren't to valid so feel free to ignore this post

I watched Snyder when I was a kid (I was always a night owl and it was the only thing on pre cable). That show was so odd. I have a difficult time remembering what I actually saw on Snyder vs. what I saw in SNL sketches with Ackroyd doing Snyder. :)

Yeah, my cable company doesn't have The Fuse either so I've got no idea what that's about except for when that guy went on Queer Eye. BBs are trying to reach the non fans with this CD so I suppose the more widespread and general the impact, the better for them. And I suppose that at this stage, they just want to do their schtick without answering any real questions. I'm glad any sort of fan got to interview them though.

It's funny because if Adrock actually came here and posted, he would have anything he wants within an hour. People here do nice stuff for me all the time and they don't like me near as much as they like Adrock. :p

Capitol did not set up the interviews; the Beastie Boys' publicist did.

Why are those millions of people (i.e., nonfans and possible fans-to-be) more important to reach and communicate with than us?

I suppose the argument is that so few of us plan to buy SGH that they shouldn't waste their time on us. Hmm...I dunno how smart that is. Ignore = Alienate

I guess, to be fair, I should acknowledge that Yauch did share some stuff with us about the release -- stuff that he could never say to the media. So, in a way, there was an exclusive to the board first. Oh, damn! I'm forgetting that he posted the tracklist here first too.

My friend at Capitol sent me the tracklist a few days after Yauch posted it here. I said that I already had it. My friend was surprised because no one in their office had it yet.

Ok. So we weren't ignored.

Forget i said anything M, you're right with everything you said I was just adding some unnecessary thought to the matter. And being ignorant, I just assumed Capitol sorted things like promotions out for them, I see I was wrong!

But yeah on Yauch's last posts i thought it was cool how he spoke his mind and said it how it is, and it's good you aknowledged the tracklisting thing was pretty exclusive...I hadn't even though of that. And as you say, he spoke stuff he wouldn't say to the media, which was rather cool.

Yeah, sometimes I'm just greedy. It occurs to me that I was at my last Beasties Boys concert a mere 8 months ago today. Any sort of new activity within the year is encouraging.

I do appreciate that Yauch posts, even if I often forget that he reads the board. :o

Court St -

I have an sentry out there working to retreive the video.
Turns out it was a closed set taping of the tom snyder show, and a friend of a friend was the cameraman. He states that he was a KISS fan until he witnessed this debacle first hand. I'll see what I can come up with as far as the video is concerned.

Hate? I'm not hating. b-grrrlie is right. We would like them to share info with us here, a place that is more accessible to fans than print and broadcast mediums.

I will never see your interview, whether it's one minute long or two hours long, because my provider does not carry Fuse. Nor does b-grrrlie's provider in Sweden. Nor does dave790's provider in England. And so on and so on...

Well, I can't call myself Horovitz's "super cool friend," so you've got one on me!

And dont forget about my provider here in Brasil. Its not available too!!! hehehehe :D
