"Critics say the use of pink demeans women, perpetuates offensive stereotypes about women and homosexuality, and puts the university in the uncomfortable position of tacitly supporting those messages."

lame news article (http://news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/ap/20050928/ap_on_sp_co_ne/fbc_iowa_pink_lockeroom_1)

stupidist thing I've heard today so far. yes pink is demeaning to women. that's why we wear little pink ribbons for breast cancer and 70% our girls baby clothes have pink on them. pink is so sexist.

I have always loved pink. When I was little I wanted everything to be pink. I painted my bedroom and got pink curtains and lampshades so that the light was actually pink.

I guess I'm just a stereotypical women then?

and when men wear pink it's called salmon (http://www.24addict.com/albums/album12/Salmon_T_shirt_wall.sized.jpg).

There was a girl named Angel that rode my school bus and one day she said, "My pussy is pink and it don't stink !" That shit was so funny and even though the year was 1987 - I'll never fucking forget it ! :D

it's not like they're completely and totally off the mark. there's some stock in that argument.

This is so fuckign stupid. It's a school fucking tradition. if they stop this now because of some rightwing fucking lezzy bitch then it'll be the dumbest act by the NCAA since they tried to stop schools from having Indians as their mascots.

Someone's been listening to talk radio. I was stuck in my car for hours today and I had to hear the story on ND 10 times. Even the reasonable radio stations are like tabloids, trying to get people worked up.

You know what's more stupid than the article? The people who threatened to kill the law professor for speaking her mind.

you know what, i'm am completely and utterly sickened by people who insist that real feminists are "angry lesbians" for fuck sake, think of an original insult for once.
yeah, women should all be scantily clad and wear pink, just for male's tittilation - but only the sexy ones. the rest can go kill themselves. this is the feeling i get from many of you on here.

It's a very lame form of argument.

It's also so untrue. The lesbians I know aren't very angry. The most "angry" feminists I know are the married ones with young kids who are sending their kids to public schools. ("Public" meaning free, underfunded, and run by the government.) And a couple of the most "militant" feminists I know are men who don't even have daughters. I love my friends & coworkers. :)

:(

I know alot of guys nowadays that wear pink, but usually they are either gay, or doing because they think girls will see them as "comfortable with their sexuality". If there was a straight guy who wore pink because he actually likes the colour, I'd have absolutely no problem with him, but fucken law/commerce students who wear this colour just because of a trend really shit me. Especially when in reality they are homophobic steroid addict bullies who would have bashed any guys who wore pink during high school.

I think its fine for anyone to wear pink, as long as they do it because they like the colour...and as long as they aren't hypocrites.

"I'd have absolutely no problem with him, but fucken law/commerce students who wear this colour just because of a trend really shit me." <-- Agreed Rancid. There's this guy at tafe (Tzar would know) that wears baby pink shirts regularly...he has a gf, so I doubt he's gay (or even heading that way) but I do believe he does it for the so called 'trend'. Shits me to tears.

I have no problem with pink, with wearing pink or anything like that, especially not for the reason that it represents the feminine. I just dont like it when I see guys from high school that used to bully the feminine boys (it was an all boys school), use the word "gay" as the generic insult, and insult the crap out of anyone wearing anything vaguely pink... Yet when their girlfriends want them to be all "new age" they suddenly start wearing pink and befriending a gay person because its "the cool thing to do". That is whats wrong here, and that is why I wouldn't wear pink because I wouldnt want somebody thinking I was one of these hypocritical jocks.

I'll wear pink provided that my hair looks all silky and my make-up hasn't caked-up. I just need to look pretty before I put on my pink polo!
