Okay, when I got sick last week it was my own fault for burning the candle at both ends for way too long. But after a weekend of total misery, I was getting better. Then I went to a god-foresaken location in the north woods for a work conference this week and got something completely different but equally painful. I am living on Mountain Dew now because it is my magic remedy for everything.

P.S. I went to a concert last Saturday while my judgment was impaired by fever and I sincerely apologize to those I infected.

P.S.S. If you have a bad sore throat and a rash, see a doctor. Apparently Scarlet Fever is back, and my friend's friend has it. That seems so Little House on the Prairie.

It had been ages for me too. When I got my cold last weekend, I found that all my medicine had expired in 2001. So I went to the pharmacy and found out that all the cold medicine is under lock and key because of meth addicts. So in order to purchase my generic cold medicine at Walgreens, I had to sign a registery--just like how they distributed arsenic in old British mysteries. Then I got home and took the pills and felt 10 times worse, so I went back to Aleve for the fever and Mountain Dew for everything else.

I'll let you in on a little secret the medical community and drug companies don't want you to know.... medicine is still good after the date it expires. over time it will loose potency and you may need to take more but it's not actually dangerous to take it when it's expired. Once it hits 7 to 10 years you should toss it, but otherwise you can still try taking it.

Do you know what they do with meds that expire at the hospital and in doctors offices? they don't throw them out. legally they can't distribute them anymore to patients, but they box it up and send it off to health clinics in third world countries and the like.

I know this is stuff because my dad is a doc. we always took expired meds around my house and they worked just fine.

I wondered about that. It makes sense.

I couldn't find the stuff I'd like last time but I had thrown it away before I realized I couldn't buy more.

The pharmacist also tried to tell me to take individual things for my individual ills, but I was too impaired by fever to listen at the time. I later remembered what she had said when the stupid pills I bought made me feel worse. I think that I was dying to get my hands on the cold pills just because they were now locked up.

I'm still sick. I'm sick of being home sick. I watched 3 hours of Cracker and I'm tired of Robbie Coltrane. I also got Picnic at Hanging Rock from the library but if I remember that was a bit of a bummer.

On the plus side, I just bought tickets for Jonathan Richman next month at a bar in town. Each ticket was $12 and the Ticketmaster charge was under $3. Woo hoo!
