First the Venezuelans make their big move on South America, now the EU and the UN are challenging the US on the internet.

Who do YOU think should oversee the internet?

None.

Why does it need to be controlled?

The internet is nothing but a bunch of individual computers sending data to each other.

But I have no problems with the existing format, it's caused me no problems.

Enigma - I get where you're coming from, but even you would agree that there needs to be some measure of regulation, especially regarding things like child pornography, selling body parts online, drug dealing online, etc?

Maybe not.

The interesting point here is that the UN and EU seem to think it's important to step in and stake their claims to the mantle of internet czar. What will happen as the US reacts?

Child porn and drugs are things that are illegal in the 'real world' as well. The internet doesn't need to be controlled by the UN to take care of these problems.

Obviously there is going to be some control, but I don't think there should ever be more control than what there is now (Very little).

This argument is against the internet is like saying paper is bad because it can used to print off child porn and roll joints.

The internet doesn't need to be controlled to stop any of this.

IP's can be traced using normal law procedures and convictions can go from there.

There doesn't need to be UN control of the internet to prvent or allow this sort of thing.

THe UN won't get control unless we give them control, and even I find this a stupid thing to do.

I see absolutely no evidence that they would do a better job controlling it.

LMAO!

Maybe Clinton can help him wire some more classrooms while he's at it - that is if he's not TOO busy with his fundraising for Hillary '08 or hurricane victims (y) :p
