the one you know as "mike d" was actually born as quasimodo jenkins back in 1943. quasimodo always wanted a hip name that jazz musicians would "dig." but since he was born during the war, names were required to be at least 4 syllables. it was 12 years later that quasimodo was in the town of hill valley. there, he met a man named marty mcfly who had a delorean that could take quasimodo to the mid-80's. quasimodo knew that this was his chance to get a righteously kick-ass stage name so he hopped a ride with marty. and the rest is pretty obvious. quasimodo arrives in the mid-80's, where he meets 3 fellows going by MCA, King Adrock, and 1ne-eyed Jack. they suggested Mike D as a stage name so the four could start a barbershop quartet. after 1ne-eyed Jack was arrested for triple-homicide and sodomy, MCA, Adrock, and the newly named Mike D decided that this was their chance to leave barbershop quartets and explore hip-hop.
or maybe his name is michael diamond.

D.M.W, u must be the stupidest b-boys fan ever. U should b able to work wot mike d is for yourself, and if not, listen to the music.
Shake your Rump (i think, kinda tired): I quote:
'Is your name Michael Diamond?'
'No, mine's Clarence'
And just cus i think u r an idiot, the Clarence bit is not his real name, and is a lie to get away from what seems to be the cops.

Is this guy being ironic or has he really just escaped from a local lunatic asylum?
Incidentally, is it true that the Beastie Boys did a song called Fight for Your Right? Just something I heard on the grapevine.

I have an early Beastie Boys article where they don't even call him Micheal "Diamond". They call him by a different last name. I always thought Diamond was a pseudonym. Or maybe they got his last name wrong in that article. Its hard to tell. Either way, who really gives a fuck. Any time you ask a question like this you're just going to get a bunch of mindless banter where people recited beastie lyrics and we all know how annoying that can get. Its best just to leave it alone.

Haha, I feel you. But its got to be funny dood. Now lets get nerdy. . .
So check it, Excerpt from Boston Rock #49, 1984 (compiled in "The Beastie Boys Companion"):
"The Beastie Boys are four kids, plus soundman Scott and DJ Rick, all hooked in on one big in-joke. Lead singer Michael Crawford desperatedly tried to keep things on track but only succeeding in setting up another volley of punch lines.". . .
The article goes on to talk about the history of the Beasties, what B.E.A.S.T.I.E. means, the Young Aboriginals, recording Polywog Stew, and Cookie Puss, how they hooked up with Rick, etc. Kate was still with the band at that time and they talk about the Beasties doing a mixed punk/hip hop show. They call everybody by their current name "Adam Yauch", "Adam Horovitz" etc. Except they call Mike D, "Michael Crawford".
Now, maybe this is Mike just fucking around with the journalist because that's what the Beastie's always do. On the other hand, the article is from 1984, these guys had just met up with Rick. Maybe Rick was like "Michael Crawford" ain't gonna work, you're Mike Diamond now. If you remember your Beastie shit, Mike D almost got dropped from the band in the early days because he wasn't "hip hop" enough. Not only that but if you look at Polywog Stew they never call Mike, "Mike D" or "Michael Diamond". It just say's "Mike--Vocals". Cookie Puss doesn't have their names on the record. The first time you see him as "Mike D" is on the Rock Hard EP in 1985. And in an Article from Creem magazine in September 1985, Kate is already gone from the band, they call Mike "Mike Diamond".
Anybody know of any article before 1984 where they call Mike "Michael Diamond"?

Hmmmmmmmmm...........you got arguments....... And its a big possibility that Mike D's real name could be Michael Crawford. I wouldnt be surprised if his real name was Michael Crawford. As you said they always fucked around journalists. Or maybe hes fucking around with everybody that call him Mike D. I'll try find something about this.....
