And my White Sox are due. They haven't won a play-off series since 1917. They haven't won a home play-off game since 59'. That all changes tomorrow when they whack a couple line drives up the middle and shave that Abe Lincoln beard off Clement. White Sox in 4. I hope the Yankees can beat the Angels. The Angels are the team that scares me in the AL. I don't think St. Louis is going to walk all over the Padres like everyone thinks. That series will go 5. White Sox beat the Astros in six in the World Series.

I have no problems with that. If you have the cash, spend it.

My problem lies with teams like Pittsburgh, Tampa Bay, and Kansas City, who's owners get their fat luxury tax and revenue sharing checks and put it in their pockets instead of reinvesting it into the team they own.

I would rather have an owner who will spend money to try and put a winning team on the field, then won who only worries about making a profit on their team.

yes, i do know about owners eating the cash, and it does bug me...

but what eats me about the big money teams is that simply based on location and population and the like, some teams iwll always have more money. i can safely say that even if the pirates management spent all the money they had on a team every year, they still wouldnt equal half of the money that all of the big payroll teams spend.

it is basically telling all of the small market teams that since your deomgraphic doesnt contain 10 or 20 million people in it, you won't get the revenue other teams get so you can't compete at the same level...

then there is the whole seperate arguement about how much these guys make....baseball is rediculously overpriced

Mets had the 3rd higest payroll in the MLB. Where did that get them? tied for 3rd/4th in the NL East.

It's not how much you spend, it who you spend it on.

The White Sox have been flying under the radar with the best record in the AL all year.

Same record (30-28) as the Colorado Rockies since August 1st. Contreras has a lifetime ERA over 11.00 against Boston. Schilling 3-0 with a 3.25 ERA in his last five starts, he's back on track and a proven October performer, as is David Wells. Look out for Jonathan Papelbon locking down the late innings with stuff better than Foulke's a year ago. Not to mention an offense that will rake the White Sox starters. Red Sox in 4. Sox over Angels in 6 for the ALCS, Sox over Atlanta in 5 for the World Series.

Busy working/going to school amidst all of this.

If we get swept today, hey, congratulations and have fun, October playoff runs are incredibly exciting and I know a town like Chicago will savor it for all it's worth. Your team is hot, mine's not at all, bad news for me in a short series but that's how the playoff cracker crumbles. But let's not get ahead of ourselves. Last year we went down 0-3 to the Yanks and reeled off 4 straight, the year before down 0-2 to the A's we did the same, so anything can still happen. I will be pretty pissed with Francona though if we lose today having never thrown Schilling.

That was an absolutely exellent game to watch. Both teams played spectacular, but the Astros' Roger Clemens gave them the edge they needed. Adam Devine (the losing pitcher) was doing great but he was too wild in the 18th. I knew once he threw one over the plate that it was going to get crushed. No, I was laying motionless on the couch for a few minutes, then got up and re-counted the Cub Fans money in my wallet I earned from round of the ALDS.

It sounds like you and Johnny 'The Windsock' Cusack won't be making it to any games. (http://www.suntimes.com/output/sox/cst-nws-nocelebs12.html)

We don't need celebrities here, Sox chairman Jerry Reinsdorf said before Tuesday's game. "We have real fans."

Reinsdorf is almost militant in that belief. When actor John Cusack reportedly inquired about getting tickets recently, Reinsdorf rejected him. He still remembers when Cusack -- who starred in "Eight Men Out'' about the 1919 "Black Sox'' who threw the World Series -- became the world's biggest Cubs fan during the North Siders' 2003 playoff run.

Cusack used to be a White Sox fan, Reinsdorf said, recalling Cusack coming to the Sox 2000 playoffs. "He showed his true colors. Now that we won, someone on his behalf called my office. I wouldn't give them to him."

bad calls on both sides of both series, but yes, the strike zone has been inconsistently called in the NLCS...

still, though, that was spectacular defense in the ninth to keep the cards from scoring...

with runners on first and third and no outs, they tagged out the runner at home then turned a double play to end the inning...

Houston now has to win one game, from any one of their big three...

I'm now certain that the slump the Sox were in in September was all strategy. Ozzie just didn't want his boys to show their cards. They went relatively unnoticed in the first half of the season despite having the best record in baseball, and they went unnoticed in the second half of the season because they started to fall off a bit and everyone thought it was over for them. HA! FOOLS!

I was completely petrified about facing the Angels before this series started because of Vladimir Guerrero alone. He frightens me. But Sox pitching made him look silly. Joe Crede came back with a vengance in this series. I think he deserved the mvp over Paul Konerko, but they were both pretty fucking clutch. Juan Uribe deserves a Gold Glove. His defense continues to blow me away.

At one of the cross-town classic games I went to back in the day (1999, I believe), people fell out of the stands and onto the field in the midst of fist fighting on three different occasions. It's not the best environment for small children due to all of the shit-talking and the risk of eruptions of drunken violence at any given moment. And it rules.

Oh please. You and and I both know that stadium would be chock full of greasy beer gutted White Sox fans who actually deserve to be there if they could afford tickets.

Why wasn't it chock full of greasy beer gutted White Sox fans all year when they were trying to practically give tickets away. I mean you guys have a great team...and they still struggled to fill the stadium.

And don't give me the "white sox fans have jobs" line. Chicago has 3 million people...they couldn't scrape together 40000 true fans.

it is going to be tough, the Sox are no joke. to think that their starters might have the edge over Houston's is scary...

although the Stros get to use Bagwell as DH in Chicago and the White Sox pitchers will have to bat when they are in Houston...

either way it was a longtime comin for both teams... first world series in texas ever... small market, underdog teams that play the right way...

And my White Sox are due. White Sox beat the Astros in six in the World Series.

Yeah, so I was wrong. The boys might be celebrating in Texas.
