If you cannot clap in time, do not clap at all.
Don't "woo hoo" in the quiet bits.
When the singer tells you you're the best audience of the tour, he's lying. Especially when he can't remember what city he's in.

Did you find a lot of out-of-time clapping during the breaks in 'Lighten up' and 'Sabrosa' when you were down under?

I do not remember much handclapping at all. At the sideshows I was up close and everyone was fighting for position so there was no room for handclapping. At BDO, I was about 30 feet back and everyone was TALKING during the instrumental section.
I will never forget the opening act for the sideshow in Sydney when those guys were doing the "say fuck you over there" with the hand gestures. I was standing at the rail, bored out of my mind, an old American lady surrounded by young people, and the security guard was looking at me because I was the only one down front who was not raising my hand and doing the "fuck you" thing. He raised his eyebrows at me, I rolled my eyes at him, and he cracked up. He kind of watched out for me after that. (y)
i got a beasties chant started at BDO. no shit 'ey!
no one was chanting anything i started yelling "beeeasstttiiies" like when lisa and bart chant "darrrryyyylll" in that baseball episode.
and yeah, people started doing it. i shit you not. didn't last long though.

:D
It sounds like the BDO crowds were better outside Sydney. I went because it was Australia Day and I was worried everything else would be closed.

75% of the crowd were there for slipknot...

I, alas, did not see Slipknot. :)
System of a Down seemed very popular on the big stage.

i watched some slipknot whilst waiting for SOAD. i dunno - i couldn't help it. i had to watch. they have an enigma cause they're so fucked up.

I heard a couple of chants start during Powderfinger's set, and was happy.
Then everybody started singing along 'These Days' , and I was very unhappy.

what?! i long for those opportunities

haha
but i believe them every time, i put my cynicism to rest during the 2 hours

ahh, the kids trying to clap to "12:51" by the strokes at their bdo and sydney performance last year. that was quite hilarious.
and yeah, i found that people talked all the way through the instrumental set at the sydney show, also melbourne.
what i find funny is watching people trying to figure out what to do with their hands when they are in the air. the peace sign? the sign od the devil?the middle finger? a combination of all three? how about a beer salute!

Yeah, and it looks especially bad when old people do it.
NIN fans are the BEST! They may look unusual, but hey don't "woo hoo," they know and pay close attention to the music, they move about in time to the music, but they rarely clap. Also, they're kind to the elderly.

at a concert a few months back there were all these jocks in front of us...and they were yelling to each other...and then their coach came and they all got drunker and were talking really loudly to him. this drunk girl next to us decided to take matters into her own hands and yelled obscene comments about them to no one in particular, assuming she was being really hilarious. it was horrible because we couldn't hear a damned thing, and it was a huge stadium so of course it was already ridiculously loud. finally a guy a ways away from us yelled for them to be quiet and they realized how rude they were being and apologized.
the drunk girl, however, kept trying to start fights with them. *sigh*

I pretty much have the best "woo hooo" of all time, its requested all the time even when its not during the quiet concert bits
its more of a "YEEEE OOWWWWWWWWWWW" though
seriously.

I saw NIN last week and you're absolutely correct on all of these!

Bleeding and getting sweat all over you works just fine.
Oh, on that note.
Keep your fucking shirt on when you are at a gig, especially in a mosh pit

i wore two t-shirts in my last big mosh pit. i must've lost a kilo easily from sweatin' it out.

It drives me insane when I go to punk gigs... if the heat and sweat isn't bad enough you get half naked men jump into you.
Igh.

gross.
oh and also, it should be illegal for 7 foot, 300kg cunts to push around 50kg girls at shows. BUT IT'S ACCEPTED.
concerts can be a living hell for girls.

Of course the guys are shirtless and sweaty! The whole purpose of moshing and slam dancing is to allow young, straight men to work out their homosexual urges while pretending to be hyper-masculine.

the only reason ppl take their shirts off in mosh's i find is to show off tattoo's. Half the people in the Slipknot mosh at BDO had that S slipknot symbol tattooed somewhere on their body

Young men admiring each other's skin in sweaty pits is more evidence of them coming to grips with their (homo)sexuality.

yeah god only knows what those slipknot fans are on. i've wanted to get tattoo's for a while but i really need to pick something that i wont regret. some stupid ppl i know have like ICP symbols and evil clowns and just stupid stuff like that. i wanted to get the guy from the cover of Battle of LA but think i'll regret that in 20 odd years. the only band tatt i'd contemplate getting is the A Perfect circle semi circle symbols if you know what they are

its kind of hard not to notice a tall sweaty skinhead with 20 piercings and a masive slipknot s in the middle of his back when he's standing right in front of you

like one of those stupid little hachet men? 2 of my friends have that. and one of them also has ICP tattoed on his bicep. he's had them for about 2 years now and his parents still dont know.
the only good music tat i've seen is one of my mates has the Tool third eye. it's looks pretty friggin good but i think he may regret it one day

No clue, don't remember what the tat was exactly.
He also has a large P on the inside of his arm. I thought it looked like the Portishead logo but that seemed out of place when the rest were all punk and metal bands.
I asked him what it was and he said "Portishead!" :D

awesome! one of the best live acts i've ever seen. first time was a good four years ago, opening for the (international) noise conspiracy at the Glasshouse. i lived a few blocks away from there up until a few weeks ago! anyway, it was the most amazing show. they were just starting to break, and i had loved them for years because i'd seen the "hate to say i told you so" video on Are-Oh-Vee late at night. it was a spectacular performance. the next time i saw them was at Coachella and they were still awesome. from an intimate venue to a giant festival, they put on a hell of a show. and Pelle is such an entertainer. i absolutely love that Swede.
have fun! :)
