i put a ocuple people on it just to see what it does, and it really doesnt help me at all.

i mean, people who picked to remain hidden, still remain that way. i figured it would like, tell me that they are on, even though they appear to not be

Well, it wouldn't, would it? As you can add anyone to your buddylist, you'd be able to effectively over-ride their privacy settings.

If they wanted people to see them, they'd not set themselves to invisible.
