i need help chosing a song to bring in for my history of rock and roll class. i want it to be a rap song, because nobody in the class likes rap, and they need to realize that not all rap is bad. i cant chose just one beastie boys song.

i was thinking about bringing in "Get By" by Talib Kweli, or "Conceerto of the Desperado" by The Roots.
Does anybody have any suggestions?? maybe mckill does?, because i hear he has every cd ever released

Juicy by Notorious BIG
Keep Ya Head Up by Two Pack Shaker
Sound of Science would be a good Beasties song because everyone will recognize the Beatles sample and Paul's Boutique had an obvious impact on the music industry.

I think that what you have in mind are pretty solid choices. Definition by Mos Def & Talib or Brothers Gonna Work It Out by Public Enemy are my suggestions.

Magnificent Seven by the Clash, oh yeah!
How can you dislike rap, yet like something so ridiculously mediocre? The Clash is one of my favorite groups, but seriously, this song was very subpar even for it's time (Rapture was much better).

Time Zone - World Destruction, John Lydon and Afrika Bambaataa.

Perfect mesh of Punk, Rap, Re-Mix, hyper-political and it's bound to piss off everybody one way or the other. (y)

Last Poets-When the Revolution Comes...or whatever it's called. I personally dislike the song but when your class gets all pissy about it you can blow your top and start shouting shit about how it came out in 1834 or something and that Chuck D thinks they're awesome and that he was in Public Enemy and that they're angry and that he had a friend who wore a clock.

you'll get an A for sure.

Suspended Animation - K.M.D. ought to get you top marks. And if it doesn't, you could turn up the volume, and let the bass destroy everybody.

I was kind of joking. I think the song is subpar as well.

WHAT?!

I love that song.

If they must be schooled to hip hop, why not pick one of the two greatest hip hop recordings ever?

Root Down or Peter Piper.

Drop - The Pharcyde

it's not as well known as some of these other tracks suggested. but it sounds great; a good representation of wordplay and music.

i ended up bringing in 100% Dundee by the roots. everyone in the class hated it, except for one kid. i told this one kid they play their own instruments, and he responded with "they play their own turntables?"

such a tragic day. im on the only one in the class who has bought in rap. at least i tried to get them to listen something other than jack johnson :( :( :(
